I called March and they didn't seem to know. Which pulleys does everybody use? Meanchicken Jul 2nd, 07, 10:38 AM I've got a March serpentine kit on mine.I don't have to PN handy, but it's the same one I used on my old 396. It bolted right up to the ZZ502. Tim mkpatrick Jul 3rd, 07, 02:57 PM Do you run P/S? I run an alternator and p/s on a 454. When I want to race, I loosen the p/s pulley at the track and yank the V-belt. The alternator and water pump is run by a 2 inch wide cogged belt that stays on no matter what rpm. This gives me the ability to run p/s for road cruising and then not running it with the loosening of one allen cap screw once at the track. Its a Black mountain Precision setup. Check them out online or on Ebay. http://www.blackmountainprecision.com/ badzboy11 Jul 3rd, 07, 03:17 PM No power steering. Just water pump and alternator. Larger Dave Jul 6th, 07, 02:14 PM The ZZ502 is a big block like all others, no external difference. Depends upon the water pump you choose. The Deluxe ZZ502 ships with a 1968 and down short style aluminum water pump. Unless you have changed it out to the long water pump style used on the 1969 and up model years. (If it is the short style the back of the pump is touching the timing cover, the long style has about 3/4" of air gap between the pump and the timing cover). Once you have decided upon long or short water pump you have to figure out if it is to be a normal rotation (that is what March and Zoops use) or reverse rotation (used by the factory) because the belt routing and pulleys are different. V-belts are all normal rotation, but they are easily thrown off a ZZ502 motor because it will quickly rev that high, unless you order the factory style deep V-groove pulleys. The serpentine belt in normal rotation for a long style water pump (1969 & up) is your best bet if you buy an Edelbrock normal rotation long style water pump for a 1969-72 BBC. Larger Dave badzboy11 Jul 6th, 07, 07:31 PM Thanks for the info. 68 zz502 Jul 17th, 07, 10:25 PM I have a march serp system on mine as well and it works great. If you are running electric fans get the short water pump system. I have a be cool radiator and it barely clears the fans with the short pump. I don't see it happening with a long water pump though. Meanchicken Jul 18th, 07, 02:05 PM Same with me. BeCool and Flex-ailite single elect fan with a short WP and there is probably 0.75" clearance between the fan and the WP pulley. Tim |
