I was looking at muncies on ebay as I try to do each week or so and came upon this 65 muncie with case 3851325 and date P1229. If you look through the pictures, there are two shots of what turned out to be two separate gang stamped 68 LOS vins (from a fullsize car) 18L137245. I had seen a 67 LOS muncie with vin stamps on the main case and the tail shaft so I thought maybe the tail shaft was changed. It wasn't. I asked the seller where the vin stamps are located and he replied,
"Hi, That number is stamped on the top of the Main Case twice on right hand and left hand side."

I know the seller isn't a muncie expert but how do you explain this? Those vin stamps actually look like originals to me. Here is the link to the auction:

Back in the 80's I use to subscribe to Hemmings motor news. In there were ads from parts dealers who said they could numbers match engines, trans etc. They had dated coded parts up the ying yang. If you needed a dated coded engine for your car, they implied in the ads that they could supply anything you needed to make it numbers matching. I would be skeptical of any dated coded parts with CON VIN's on them, someone make think they are being clever and going to make some $$ selling parts like this.

Go pick up Hemmings on the news stand and look at the 1000's of ad, you may still find these types of guys in business.
