I have aquired a 72 with a 4speed that has been parked for 15 to 18 years while it runs great & drives ok, reverse only works by manually disconnecting or connecting the linkage under the hood at the column, I restored my 67 but never had a 4speed before any help would be appreciated. Dave

I never saw a 4 on the tree, but if it's like all the column shifters I ever had it probly needs a 2-man WD-40 job. Thats 1 guy moving the shifter and the other guy hosing it down.

Spraying solvent on them works good too.

They are adjustable.

yes thats what that linkage was for to lock it in reverse to get key out. you can take all that off. when you want key out you can turn outside of steering column to the left and get key out. hope this helps you out.

Your on hereitis67. Come inspection time, you'll also have to turn the column sleeve to get backup lights to turn on, or install a backup switch on the tranny as I have to do. Happy Motoring!
