Here is a bit of info that I did not know and some of you may not know. I was talking to the Milodon tech because I had a question about one of their pans and running a stock dipstick. Well one thing led to another and he told me that their quantity ratings are for the pan alone. You have to add an additional quart for the filter. For my SBC I have their 31900 kit # and it uses a 7qt pan. Actually I will be running 8qts. now. Just a info giver.

Mike,
Drain oil then change your oil filter then put in 7 quarts of oil and start the car. Wait 5 minutes then put the dip stick in and mark it where the line of oil ends. Add the 8th quart and put the clean dip stick in and mark the stick there . You now can scribe FULL at the upper mark and LOW at the lower mark. Be sure the car is level...

The tech at Milodon said to drain, fill with SIX quarts and no filter. That will be your 1 qt low. Next, put in 7th quart and that will be your full mark. After that you can install filter and fill with 8th quart.

Since it's bad form to start an engine with an empty oil filter, the way I did mine was I carefully poured almost a full quart into the filter and installed it prior to filling the pan.
I then poured 6 quarts in, let it settle and marked the low line on the Miloden dip stick. I then added the 7th quart let it settle and marked the full line.
