Maybe you could ask for a vin? Engine stamp looks funny, 1970?

Based on the info given in the ebay ad, it doesn't appear to be the original engine as described.

TO612HB engine stamp and a 12C tag certainly don't line up.

From the ad:
Quote:
" - rebuilt numbers 350-4bl-30 over, mild performance cam-roller tip rockers-300hp casting#3956618 stamped with vin plusT0612HB
- sINCE THE VIN# IS STILL VISIBLE ON THE PAD AND THE CASTING NUMBERS ARE CORRECT FOR A 69 CAMARO, I BELIEVE IT TO BE A MATCHING NUMBER CAR."

I have no ability to discern fake tags...

I hate the "lawyering" by folks selling cars...caveat emptor, but from those quotes, it sounds like the motor is possibly a restamp and therefore the suspicious part of the car...not the tag? Is that what ya'll are saying here? To me, if I had a numbers matching car, I would emphatically say this is the "original numbers matching engine" not dance around it...

BTW, there is no picture of the engine stamping when I looked...sounds like from zdld's post there used to be one...

A good and a very valid point.

But the trim tag looks real to me...

Tag is real. Engine is not original. Would have been a 388 block too early for the 618 block.

"I BELIEVE IT TO BE A MATCHING NUMBER CAR. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REBUILT AND.
SLIGHTLY UPGRADED BUT APPEARS TO BE A 1972 MODEL."

That right there tells you it's not a numbers matching car.

Theres no such thing as a June assembled 618 block unless it sat around for at least 3 months prior to being assembled. the trim tag is third week of December, engine was assembled in June (would have to have been June of 69 since the 618 block was only cast between January and April of 69), and the transmission "appears to be a 1972 model". Car has been cobled together from various piece parts. The engine is most likely a restamp, but regardless it doesn't belong in a mid December built car. Cas has new dual fuel lines, so you can't use that as a guide to the car being an L48 or not. The tag is real, it may or maynot belong on this car, would need to know the VIN on the dash to tell.

It looked to me like the tag has been off. Yet I am NOT an expert by no means. I was waiting for Jonesy to say something......Im still learning. Thanks Jonesy.

Not sure if it's been off, but it is real. :)
The rivets have stuff over them that doesnt look factory to me.

Would be nice to know the VIN.

I asked for both vins (car and trim tag). He said he was not giving out the vars vin yet and gave me these numbers for the engine pad.

"pad has N566xxxT0612HB"

Does the beg. of the vin make sense for that engine date?

No, but it matches the Trim tag build date. Engine pad is a restamp.
