Well I am about to do my 3rd gen gear box swap, but here is my problem. I have the box and I ordered the kit from Lee Power Steering, but my pressure hose is leaking and I can't find a replacement. The car did not come with power steering and the power steering system that is on it came off a 1st gen Monte Carlo, only every hose I look at is missing a bend on the end that goes into the pump. Everything else about the hose is correct so I think I am going to have to take my hose to a hydraulic place and have them re-use my ends and recrimp them onto a new piece of hose. I have even taken the number off my hose and tried to do a cross over with no luck. I will probably take it off next weekend and take it to have it remade.

Has anyone else experienced this?

it's always a good idea to repalce the hoses with the swap. go to kragen or napa and order original power steering hoses for your car. they will probably be the powercraft brand. with the lee inserts, they will fit in the 3rd gen box and route the same way an original would. where exactly is the leak coming from?

My car has a teardrop style pump which is a Saginaw. Not the round style with the fill tube out the top. Mine does not have a threaded fitting in the back of the pump like a 1st gen. Mine has to thread into the pump. I do not have a 1st gen setup my car so the 1st gen hoses will not work. If you go on a website called rockauto.com you can type in each year of car. Type in a 1st gen Camaro and look at the pump and then type in a 1st gen(70-72) Monte Carlo and look at that pump. Two totally different pumps.

Sounds like you have a metric pump and now you'll have a metric box. Did you look at Monte Carlo hoses? You can get one custom made at NAPA among others.

"Just ask for a 1974 Nova hose.
The 74 Nova hose uses a male pump end to fit the female pump.
First gen pumps should have male ends, your pump is a later one, it probably has the press-on pulley too. Proper first gen pumps have the male outlet and bolt on pulley, the first gen pulley shaft is a smaller OD.

Here's the gates diagram for a 74 Nova V8 hose. 44 inches seems awful long, but maybe that's right by the time you run it under the frame stand. It also looks like it comes across the box to the driver side before it gets routed down.

I tried to post earlier, but it must not have gone through. The replacement AC Delco pump for a 71 Monte crosses to applications including 70 Camaro and Nova, and then the majority of the Chevrolet passenger car line from 71 to 74. I'd just go on RockAuto and plug in a bunch of rear steer applications (Nova, big car, Vette) and see if the Gates diagram shows one that might work. The hose you have may not be a Monte hose; it seems like a front steer hose would be too short.

The 69 Camaro with SB power steering pressure hose is 42 1/4 inch long, Gates #352570.

A 71 Nova SB pressure hose Gates #352630 is 45 3/4 inch long, has the correct ends, routes toward the front of the car on the box side like a 1st gen, and has a bend to the pump that looks pretty close (it's more square up top, but...)

I have tried all those hoses. The only thing I can think of is it either was custom made or discontinued. My hose has 35264 stamped on it and according to all the hose books they use a Edelman 70255:70-72 Monte Carlo. It is very close, but it is missing one bend which would allow the proper slack. I could use the 70255 hose, but it would not have any slack at all. I will more than likely have one made. No bigee. I have a couple places that can make it for me. Won't be until next week though. I will have off thru the week so I can go on a weekday.

If you have enough of the metal part of the line and the only thing holding you back is the bend why not just grab a tubing bender and make the line fit your needs? Should be a simple fix. Thats the joy of swaps there is no gaurantee you are going to be able to go into the parts store and get what you want, so alot of times you have to be creative and improvise. Use some good old american ingenuity on it.
