hello, I am going to install my 7" ATI super damper and was wondering if anyone can tell me how far to put it on what should the clearance be from the timing cover and any other helpful info will be very appreciated

Using an install tool, it should 'bottom out' which you can feel. Don't forget that the ATI needs to be honed for the correct interference fit on the crank snout.

I agree on the snout fitment, or you will be breaking every balancer puller made to get it off.

i used the installer and some anti sieze on the crank it went on fine i just want to know how far it should go on. i put my crank and water pump pullys on and lined them up so that they are straght

Key term here is interference fit. A lot of Chinese cranks have under size crank snouts. Get a micrometer reading of the snout and the damper ID. Then use the bolt to be sure (GM didn't bore and thread a lot of cranks because the interference fit was "good enough" to hold on the damper. I use the bolt as added insurance).

The damper bottoms out against the lower timing chain sprocket, so basically it goes on until it stops. Usually you can tell because it gets real hard to turn the intaller tool. Once you put the crank bolt in and torque it, you should be ok. If the pulleys all line up, it is probably on all the way.
