I just bought a 96 camaro z28 and discovered it had a couple problems when I brought it home. I cant figure out what could be the problem and was wondering if maybe someone here could help me. 1st-the fuel gauge will not go below 1/2 tank mark. 2nd temp gauge doesnt work 3rd "LOW OIL" light is on but have plenty of oil 4th muffler making a rattle noise 5th driver side electric window goes down but does it very very slow. Can someone please help me out with these problems.

THANKS

1) the sender or the ground wire for the gauge are probably bad
2) probably a bad temp sender- make sure it's plugged in and go from there. i believe the ecm controls the gauges on those cars, so grounding the wire going to the sender might not make the gauge move like on an older car..
3) oil level sender in the oil pan is probably bad.
4)baffles inside the muffler have probably let go, or there are piece of the cat converter bouncing around back there. time for a Flowmaster upgrade.
5)pull the door apart and see if anything is binding. but the motor is probably going.

welcome to the world of buying a car someone else has beaten to within an inch of it's life and not properly maintained. those problems are just the proverbial tip of the iceberg. if you stick with it and do everything yourself, you are gonna get to know every inch of that car...

Thanks for the help. I was just wondering, what kinf of muffler would you put on. I have a friend that put in a 40 series flowmaster and another that put a 80 series. I want that really aggressive sound.

I'm assuming it still has the Lt1 engine in it. They sound nice with the 40 series on them. As far as the window goes, the motor is a very common problem that novaderrik has pointed out.

The 80 series muffler is a direct fit for 4th gen f-bodys avalible in 2 1/2 and 3inch.Your car has 2 temp sensors 1 in the head 1 in water pump.Check your sender and it's a pain in the butt cause you have to drop the tank or cut a hole in the floor right above the tank.Your oil sensor in the oil pan is bad get a new one from gm I've found the aftermarket ones are not as nice.As far as the window sounds like a bed motor. As far as the exhaust if you want something mean look at the SLP Loudmouth they sound awesome on lt1 cars

Thanks for the info. I just got bakc from a smog test and it didnt pass. They told me to give it a tune up, change the EGR valve and myabe chang ethe cat. I changed the EGR valve and gave it a tune up nut it still wont pass. They are trying to charge me $220.00 for a new cat. What do you guys think. Is it a good deal? Do any of you guys know where I might be able to get a better deal in or close to the san fernando valley.

THANKS

Thanks for your help but now I have a different problem. Now when I go to turn the car off, it hesitates a little to turn off and the engine shakes hard making the whole car shake. What can this be?
