Monday the car is going to the tranny shop. If for some reason it's not the tranny and turns out to be the rear, what to do? I was going to spend around $1200 total and that pretty much broke me for the tranny . I really can't spend any more right now. Could I build this rear for less than that or does anyone know if a 12 bolt could be done? I know Moser is around $2000, I really can't do that now, but I really don't want to do this twice. Thats whats killing me. What to do?

You can put some good parts in the 8.2 for $1200. You also might find a Nova 8.5 for around that price. An Eaton posi, 3.73 gears and installation kit for the 8.2 will be around $710 plus shipping. If it needs axles then you are looking at another $300 with bearings and studs.

I just rebuilt my 8.2 and can confirm what Freddie said as to parts cost, but in my case I paid another $800 for labor and in the end could have bought (almost without shipping) a Moser 12 bolt.

WHATS YOUR POINT? This has nothing to do with this thread. This is a whole different problem. The motor is fine now. Yes, I listened to mechanics that I didn't know but they were reffered by a friend that I know wouldn't steer me wrong on purpose. What happened happened and it's over.I'm not going to get into it again. And I told you I really didn't expect you to come here fron NJ.

He used a trac loc posi, not sure of the axle, but 31 spline. Chevy ends for my brakes, N case, new axle tubes welded to center section. And a few more things. Without the brakes it's around $1620 shipped. Says It will be good to around 500hp. I talked to him for a while and seems pretty good. This may be an option if it's my problem.

He's gotta be good, he's from Iowa, as myself.
