Is there any way to get rid of the vent windows in 67 doors??? 68 door hinges are a different bolt pattern than 67 and I don't know if the glass and tracking out of 68 doors will work with 67's.

In all seriousness, I see no reason why it wouldn't work fairly easily. Physically the doors are the same. Internally, you may have a few different mounting locations, but they couldn't of changed the molds that much from 67 to 68, to where you couldn't do it. Sounds alot easier to me than custom frankenstein hinges, and modifying door frames and slip plates. Buck Jul 7th, 07, 05:19 AM Jeff, WOW what a first post to get us 67 owners going... :) As you can see from the link that Larry provided their are alot of 67 lovers that live for vent windows... I really think they need to bring back the vent windows on all the new cars. Maybe I'll should run for President on that platform? :disco: Joe Harrison Jul 7th, 07, 08:48 AM Why buy a 67 in the first place if you don't like the vent windows? It's like buying a Chevy if what you really wanted was a Ford. I think the best thing you can do is find a 68 or 69 and cut the pillers out of it and take the door hinges also. Then take your 67 and cut out it's pillers and weld in the ones from the 68 or 69 and get a set of 68 doors. You will have to get all the guts from 68 doors if you buy the new repop shells. Don't forget to remove your vin tag from the 67 pillar post you cet out and put onto your new 68 pillar post you installed. This should get you the Camaro of your dreams. Mark Rossiter Jul 7th, 07, 06:10 PM Started to point to a post from a week ago, but I see ROCVERT beat me to it. Dark Angel Jul 9th, 07, 09:18 AM Do you all jump on people that want to put cowl hoods and spoilers on their '67? Or even better how many of you have these on your '67? 68IslTeal Jul 9th, 07, 10:42 AM man I bet I am in for alot of heat when I install my new gas cap! http://www.aeroform.com/Caps-Together.jpg It's from a 71 Mach-1 I say personalize your ride how you want it, no more different than making a clone car, etc... imo. Joe Harrison Jul 9th, 07, 01:18 PM Do you all jump on people that want to put cowl hoods and spoilers on their '67? Or even better how many of you have these on your '67? Give me a break. If you don't want vent windows get a 68 they are basilcly the same car so the question is a stupid one. If you knew what it realy would take your hacking the car up. The hinges are totaly different and the guts might change out but you have to hack up 67 doors to make this work also. So he just as well should go ahead put toyota engine in it and call it done. A Cowl hood bolts on and so does spoiler. I for one did not hack up my 67 only deck lid to install the spoiler on my 67. I got one that was already drilled for a spoiler. With the availabilty of parts there is no reason to hack up good hard to find orginal parts even if it is your own. I can sell my deck lid to someone tha truly needs an umolested one or keep it for later if I ever want to go back to orginal. I am all for modifying your Camaro how ever you want to, it's your car. I am not for hacking up stuff just to change something that could be had by purchacing a later year in this case a 68. Joe Joe Harrison Jul 9th, 07, 01:29 PM man I bet I am in for alot of heat when I install my new gas cap! http://www.aeroform.com/Caps-Together.jpg It's from a 71 Mach-1 I say personalize your ride how you want it, no more different than making a clone car, etc... imo. That gas cap will not be hacking up parts of the car that can not be replaced or put back and made right again. From what I have seen from these style caps they are almost a bolt in. The one on the Red Witch (a 67) is a proto-type that is coming to market soon that will only require a few holes to be drilled to install it. http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j65/BonzoHansen/GM%20Nats%20Carlisle%202007/IMG_2240.jpg Close up on Penny and it locks also!! http://www.lifeinwidescreen.com/siihp/cap.jpg 68IslTeal Jul 9th, 07, 02:11 PM Yeah gotta hack up the tail light panel for that gas cap, its large. Will have to go with a remote trunk latch because it will cover the trunk lock. jeff morgan Jul 9th, 07, 03:05 PM You guys need to relax!!!!!! I have owned the car for nearly 20 years, it is no where near original, and it was just an idea!!!! RELAX and appreciate people who try to do things a little differently. 400bird Jul 9th, 07, 08:27 PM guys, this is ridiculous! why is everyone so touchy about vent windows? you don't make a big deal about most modifications but the wing windows are a no-no to you guys, whatever he already has a 67 so let him modify his 67, quit telling everyone to sell their 67 and buy a 68, that is just crazy and for the record i have a 67 bird and have thought about getting rid of the vent windows as for getting rid of the wing windows, I believe the insides are different so you cant just bolt the 68 door insides into a 67 doors and the lower hinges are different so you couldn't use half a 67 and half a 68 hinge So the only way I can think to do it is to use you stock 67 hinges and weld the 67 slip plates (or whatever you call the plates the hinge bolts to) into the 68 doors you would have to get 68 interior door panels, and roof rail weather stripping this would not hack up your car at all just bolting a modified 68 part on to your 67 and moderators, could we please do something about this crap? everyone seems so hurt by the though of modifying the windows, but every other part of the car is fair game but the wing windows are off limits? I just seems like a waste of time and no one is able to get anywhere on this subject... look at these recent threads http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=112153 http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=111588&highlight=wing+window Joe Harrison Jul 9th, 07, 09:08 PM While your changing out you bird vent windows why not put on a Camaro front clip??? Same thing and same stupid question asked many times.........how do I make my Firebird a Camaro.....or vise versa. I have said it before and will say it again. It's your car do as you please. Same answers are given for the change my bird to a Camaro or Camaro to a bird, why hassle with it when you could buy what you want in the first place by buying something that already exist and do the job right. I have even read here "can I make my 68 into a 69?" Dang just buy a 69 already and save the hack job for a VW Baja Bug conversion. It not a matter of touchyness about vent windows and them being off limits. It's about what might be practical, safe and not a mutt if someone else gets ahold of it and wants to put it back. Granted some may keep it for life the way it is, but I bet that's not the norm for most of these types of questions. Most state right in the question they want inreased re-sale value, weather it's removing vent windows, changing birds to Camaros or making 68's into 69's it been all about cash and not about "It's my car, I'll do as I please". Granted this one does not say that so sorry if I have implied it or have mistaken the motivation. Joe Harrison Jul 9th, 07, 09:25 PM I will say this, the post mentioned above, I contributed to one and was supportive. I also saw people ask why? They were answered and maily joking around but I find it funny there has been a recent outbreak of the same question asked many times? Just look how many posts there are ragging on a car that is not the norm. I did not get that in my post here but elseware my paint color was frowned upon. No big deal and posted that in one of those. Dare to be different cool but be prepared to be peppered with questions like why? Like this one http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=111620&highlight=worlds+ugly In fact theres a good buy on a 68 possible since it did not sell??? No vent windows anyone? Rich-Allen Jul 10th, 07, 06:57 AM The mustang response was just a joke. Personally I like the vented windows in my 67 and don't know why people don't like them. Ford trucks had vented windows through the late 90's, there great for smokers. The one pain about vented windows is they leak air. Good luck with your project, Rich clwilcox33 Jul 10th, 07, 10:57 AM I think everyone needs to stop being so sensitive. Most of the comments are made in a friendly, joking manner; but realize that it's hard for the readers to see the expression on your face when they can't see you. Sure, there are a lot of '67 fans, just as there are '68 and '69 fans here; but the one thing that is the most obvious about a '67 is the vent window. A lot of the regulars around here toss back and forth friendly jibes with each other about the wing windows, but it gets out of hand, when those friendly nudges are directed at a new poster that doesn't, or may not know the community personality. Just keep in mind the direction of your jests. If you're not kidding, you are of course allowed to state your opinion, just do it in a non-offensive way; while still trying to help the requestor with the information they are looking for. If you can't do that, maybe you should offer to buy the car from them if you just can't stand to see them do what they want with their own car. It's no secret that I'm a HUGE '67 fan, just see my signature. I'm one of those that shake my head at the screen when I see someone wanting to remove my beloved wing windows, or change a Firebird into a Camaro; but I usually just chose to not help them on how to do it, and not post at all. Someone pass me a beer from the cooler please and we can all have a good time ;) Buck Jul 10th, 07, 04:23 PM :beers: |
