Hi!

Is it true that SS camaros have a thicket gauge front subframe?

Also, are there any differences in between the SS camaros and the base model cars regarding the car's body/structure?

Thanks!

No. All sub-frames use the same gauge steel.

All of the bodies were the same w/ certain high perf. additions for SS, Z28 - spring rates, traction rod in 67 etc.

Do a search on this forum to give you clues to look for which help differentiate SS.

OK IM asking about the frame deal because I have a freind who is a Camaro nut and he told me that the ZL1s and SS cars had a thicker gauge subframe from the factory.

Lot's of other stuff was "thicker" and stronger but the sub-frames were the same. A straight six got the same SF as the ZL-1.

69 SS cars had an extra plate of steel about 3" x 5" welded to the frame rail behind the drivers side rear wheel at about 1'oclock position with 2 holes in it for hanging dual exhaust on.
Convertibles had stiffer frame rails and did not need that plate, maybe thats what he is referring too. Ragtops had thicker steel in the frame to offset not having a solid roof for support.
Other than that, all coupes had same frame.
