that is a great photo thanks for posting
Does it have anymore info on it such as date of photo?
That is one of the ex Smokey Yunick Camaro race cars that Yenko Bought from Smokey.

Yenko won the Citrus 250 at Daytona in 1969 in it and ran the car in some Trans Am races and other SCCA races through the early 70s
cool picture

The photo didn't have any info with it when I found it, but I believe it was taken in Cumberland MD. Here's another pic that may be one of yenko's race cars, but don't know for sure, also believed to be taken in Cumberland

Jerry...

Boy, going back in time is great :) To think living those days we took everything for granted. Today we cherish every moment.

the second picture is Yenko's 1969 race car. Yenko ran it at Sebring in 1970 with a 427 ZL1 engine in it. It was very fast and ran with the Corvettes.

They changed the cars a lot back then depending on what race it was to be run in so I am not sure what engine is in it in that picture.

Where did you find the pictures?

again - thanks for posting

The first picture the car is running in B sedan, i.e. small block. The second picture the car is running A sedan, big block.

I like the Chaparrel style wing on the formula atlantic. Cool pics.

That '69 looks like it has a wing window on the passenger side ! Maybe, it's just Duct tape.

Wow, it sure does look like a wing window.....looks like you can make out the hinge & handle...(could just be an illusion)...really looks weird on that 69....I'm sure someone will chime in who knows what that is....

Tom, good eyes to catch the wing window. I have no idea why it is there. If it was to bring air in I would think it would be open.

Vent window was probably added as a air inlet for the longer races like Daytona and Sebring.
Also note the roof light and the door/number lights.
The roof light was to help ID the car during night pit stops for Daytona 24hr and Sebring 12hr

The door lights were to help the scoring people see the car at night

Don Yenko had a lot of racing experience with the Yenko/Gulf Oil Corvette Racing team running Daytona and Sebring since 1961.

I believe this picture is Daytona 1970

I believe this is the car from the first picture when Yenko won the 1969 Citrus 250. The caption says the car is a 69 but it is the 68 ex Smokey Yunick car.

As I remember the article, this was a big win for the Yenko crew as there were a lot of the top Trans Am cars running in this race. The top Mustangs were very fast and out qualified the Camaros by a large amount.
Yenko's Camaro was not one of the high dollar Camaro teams but I think his endurance racing experiance helped him to out last everyone while keeping his average speed up.

So a '69 with a vent window ! No, it is not a 67 door as the 69's have that body line ! Some of you '67 vent window guy's should be saluting !

I believe the first picture is the ex Smokey Y car on its way to Daytona 1969 where Dick Guldstrand was co driver. They blew it up

The second picture looks like ex Smokey Y car as it was run in the Citrus 250 at Daytona later in 1969

The last picture I believe is Sebring 1970 where Yenko ran the ZL1 engine

This car is probably one of the batch of 25 Zs that were special early built cars to get them in the hands of racers to prepare for Daytona Feb 67. Yenko had 3 of the 25.

Don Yenko had a separate company from Yenko Chevrolet and was called Yenko Sports Cars Inc. that was formed late in 1965. Yenko Sports Cars handled the sales, promotion, and development of race cars and hi po street cars. He also did a lot of the special parts homologation paper work required by FIA. Don would run the cars in club races and rent tracks for testing and was compensated for it by Chevrolet

In 1967 Yenko Sports Cars Inc worked on the Camaro Z/28 special parts homologation for SCCA competition for sway bars, oil coolers, etc. and even marketed a road race ready 1967 Z/28 called a Yenko Stormer. Only a few were built as they were expensive at $6000.00.

I know he won at least one SCCA Sedan race with this 67 Z/28.

Yenko Sports Cars Inc also did the paperwork with the FIA to homologate the 1969 427 Camaro.
(I have some of this paperwork in my collection)

here is a Yenko pick up with 1961 Corvette race car.

The 61-63 Yenko/Gulf Oil Corvette Racing Team is what put Yenko on the map and when he became known nationally as a big time Chevrolet racer.

They were the top Corvette Team with (underground) factory support and won SCCA B/P national champ 61 62 63 and A/P in 62 with drivers Yenko and Thompson and won a bunch of other races.
