We are trying to find out what engine is in my cousin's gto clone project car.

The casting number is 9778789, which I believe means it is a 1965 or 1966 389.

The front of the engine code is WT which I believe means it was from a GTO manual car.

However, I think the WT is supposed to be below the production number. If you get a chance click on my signature and you will see a picture showing the WT above the production code.

Does anyone know anything about Pontiac engines or a good GTO site? I don't think it was a restamp because the car has been sitting since 1990.

HERE'S (http://www.pontiacpower.org/engine.htm) a good engine code site, and HERE'S (http://www.pontiacpower.net/engcast01.html) a good site for the casting numbers.

Thanks, but what is confusing me is this:

'3. The Engine Code can be found on the front of the engine block. It is stamped on the right hand bank on a machined pad. The engine code is directly BELOW the engine production number.'

However, on this block the code is ABOVE the production number.
