Hi!

Was it possible for a car to come with AC and a big block or a 427 engine to be more specific?

My car is a small block car with astro ventilation and AC....I am looking forward to installing a Big Block in it, possibly a 427....however I would like to know if this combination of options was possible from the factory.

Thanks!

A BB car could have had AC unless it was an L78 or COPO....So basically the 396 w/325 or 350 HP could have AC....all others No!

Can a 427 fit under the hood of a 69 camaro with the stock AC components?

Domingo,

In 67 A/C wasn't available on any Big Block. In 68 and 69 only the 396/325 and 396/350 could receive A/C. (The 396/375 was a solid lifter engine, so it couldn't get A/C.) The 69 COPO (427) was also a solid lifter engine, so no A/C available on this one either, although there's debate about this.

Yes it will fit, same block as the 396.

OK Cool. Since it will be a "clone" of a 427 COPO I guess I can leave the AC there...no need to go crazy about correctness...

My Yenko clone started life as a s/b with a/c. I changed everything over to b/b components when I installed my L72 427, and it fits fine. My L72 has hydraulic roller lifters, now.

I think the reason solid lifter cars could not get a/c is that they needed periodic valve adjustment. Since the upper rear a/c bracket extends over the driver side valve cover, you would need to remove the bracket to remove the valve cover. With the evaporator box very close on the passenger side, it's no cake walk to remove that valve cover, either.

Domingo, you are hearing the absolute truth. My car is still hot in the summer because of it. But a Classic Air system is an easy fit and on my list.
