View Full Version : What exactly is Astro Ventilation? domingo Jul 9th, 07, 05:23 PM ???? jr68 Jul 9th, 07, 05:29 PM Only the coolest ventilation around. ( Not offered in the 67 :noway: ) madmax87 Jul 9th, 07, 05:36 PM It's nothing more than the name they gave to the ventilation system. Farm Boy Jul 9th, 07, 06:43 PM Astro ventilation is nothing more than the name Chevrolet marketing gave the fresh air vents in the dash on ‘68 and later Camaros. I bet the bean counters at Chevrolet figured it was cheaper to add the dash vents so they could eliminate the more expensive vent windows that were on the 67’s. They even etched “Astro Ventilation” on the side glass where the vent windows would be to make the 68 Camaro buyers think they were getting something special, when in fact they were getting a cheaper vent system. :D bearcat44 Jul 9th, 07, 06:48 PM Its when the Jetson's let their dog outside because he smelled bad :D Gambitt Jul 9th, 07, 06:56 PM I thought the vent window omission was due to federal law change, something about reducing litter...is that correct? Straight-line-69 Jul 9th, 07, 09:59 PM In the late 60's, anything to do with "Astro" was cool!..'astrodome', 'astroturf', and especially 'astronauts' who in the day were real heros during the Apollo project. In our Camoros, it's nothing but but a marketing word for taking fresh air from the plenum area and routing it through the car. Not exactly rocket science. Joe Harrison Jul 9th, 07, 11:11 PM This was also part of the vent system through the doors and into the rear 1/4's to help prevent rust and condensation? Did it? As I understand it's supposed to work on a low pressure/high pressure type of system like the cowl induction? Between 67's with vent windows and kick panel vents you can get lots air coming into the car and keep the windows up. It's a great vent system and works well. You just have to like them. The kick panels and dash/astro vents do not do much in comparison to the 67 Vent system. I like the 68 dash bezels I think they look great and break up the dash with cool looking vent. 67's got them but only on A/C cars. i am not sure if they called them ASTRO vents or balls in 67 on the A/C cars or not? [quote] That is a pretty cool answer and I think it's one of the best ones!! Codi Jul 10th, 07, 10:19 AM My Astro Ventilation has nothing to do with a car. Fred Ficarra Jul 10th, 07, 12:10 PM I was in the pre-stage lane this weekend when the last car in front of me moved to the burnout lane. I was next. Horrors! My Astro Ventilation vents were ALL wide open! I sprung into acton. Closed them up fast and made my rotation to the start line. Mustn't bleed pressure from the cowl hood. JohnZ Jul 14th, 07, 08:50 PM I thought the vent window omission was due to federal law change, something about reducing litter...is that correct? Nope - no such law; eliminating the vent window reduced cost. Gambitt Jul 14th, 07, 09:00 PM Cool, I had read that somewhere, but as we all know, half of what we read was made up by someone:) |
