I'm currently replacing my roof skin and wondered what your guys have used to replace the factory insulation on the roof? ive read where some use Dynamat and the like but wondered if anyone has used anything else similar to the factory? Thanks.

I used rubatex, an open cell foam sheeting available from industrial insulation supply houses. I cut pieces to fit between each of the reinforcment bars and glued in with the rubatex glue.
It's pretty cheap, compared to dynamat, but not at all like the factory did it.

JMO here but I wouldn't use anything that requires gluing or peal and stick. The last thing you want is to have the stuff start coming unglued after the headliner is in place. Look into the liquid spray or roll on products...

I was thinking of using the second skin peel and stick butyl on my roof. You think the heat will unadhere it?

I just got done putting Second Skin's Damplifier and Overkill Foam on the roof of my 67. I sprayed Lizard Skin's Sound Control Formula before. I tried using FatMat to line the roof, but it all fell off in a matter of weeks. So after countless research I went with the products from SS. I put the Damplifier on several weeks ago, and a couple weeks after that I used spray adhesive to attach the Overkill on top of the Damp. It's been a couple weeks since then, and the Damp/Overkill is STUCK good! But like Dennis said, you wanna make sure it's adhered good before putting up the headliner. My headliner should be on in the next couple weeks, I'll go over the roof one more time with a roller for a lil added insurance. :beers:

The roof on my 68 has cardboard between the skin and supports. I think that might be original. Am i correct? Should i remove the cardboard and replace with something else, or leave it alone?

I put Dynamat Extreme up 2 weeks ago, seems to be stuck on good.
The base was painted with DP90. I wiped it down before installation.
Bought the Dynamat on E-Bay,
Best price there by far.
