While disassembling my '69, I found a matchbox car that had worked its way all the to the back of inside the drivers rocker. I could see the matchbox car while underneath my car through the square hole in the rocker where the rubber flapper goes. The car wouldn’t fit through the hole so the only way I could get it out was to run a long vacuum hose from the front of the car where I had removed the firewall. I was hoping it was an old Camaro but it turned out to be a ’73 Mustang “Piston Popper”. Yea, its not that interesting but I thought it may be interesting to hear of anyone else that had found long lost items when removing parts from your car, other than cigarette butts and beer caps under the seats. ;) Anyone?

While cleaning out my car to Por-15 the floors I found an old pocket knife and a receipt for a lb. of ham from a Safeway in Montana from 1985. I thought the receipt was neat because I bought the car in Texas. Someone had some good times on the road before I got the car.

The person I bought my car from LOVED Sunflower Seeds. How do I know? The shells were all over the inside of the car. I kept cleaning them up and they kept reappearing. Shells were in the bottom of the seats and under the carpet. I flipped the seats upside down and vaccumed the seeds out and installed new carpet. Problem Solved.

When cutting the quarter off I found between the quarter and the drop off panel a toy truck, a pair of baby socks, a shotgun shell, a little plastic fish off a roll of fishing line, and a carbruator gasket. As I reserched the car and was talking to the second owner, I found he was an outdoorsman with a young son and a baby girl when he had it.

Red camaro, my wife found 50 bux.....and a pair of panties. unfortunately, the werent mine. We thought it was funny.
55 chevy was a prince albert snuff can full. and rollin papers.
my 41 was an antique clock and a set of Coke bottles from the late 20's early 30's.

On the subject of finding unusual stuff...I was burying a house one time in OKLA using a D7H Caterpillar and dugup/found an Astin-Martin car that was AT LEAST A 52-56 model looked like a mini-vette. was in pretty good shape. the old man showed up that owned the place and told me to mash it with the dozer. OOF. If the man paying you $175 an hour says mash, you mash. I know where theres a v-12/v-16 DEUSENBERG? car and engine not crushed tho....:D

Zeb, I think you better check that car a little closer. Those '73 Mustang "Piston Poppers" may be parasites. I hope your car isn't infested.....and:confused: turn into a Mustang!!!!

The only thing I found was a bird nest in the dash of my '67.

well i havent found anything unusual while taking apart a car(only 18), but my dad found a penny under the carpet dated the same as the car, thought that was cool. he use to paint cars and stripped a camaro and found grease pencil writing on the body that was underneath the pain and it was readable that the tail panel was to be painted black.

In the glovebox, there were some interesting items from my family's past. Haven't pulled the interior out of my Camaro yet, but I found some loose change and a razor blade under the backseat of my Impala.

Congrats on the few that have actually found money, I'm unfortunately with the others that have the black hole, or rust holes sucking away all available funds/credit.

69 chevelle inner quarter panel, written in black body sealant, "blank you".................... This could only have been done at the factory. Possibly a positive greeting used during those days, for co-workers, or possibly a time capsule thing for future generations to look back and fondly remember the good old days of precise, precision craftmanship, from the always happy at work American car builder................................See the USA in your "blanking" Chevrolet.......

A few days after cutting out the floor of my 68, I found two .25 cal bullets on the floor of the garage. Oh and did I mention I used a torch to cut it out. One was intact unfired, and the second, i found a split casing, and a copper jacket bullet with lead melting out, in two separate spots. Thought the loud pop i had heard was just the torch acting up.

The bad news I am sure I found the build sheet , but I just bought the car , just found this site and just finished the first repair (fuel sending unit) I didnt know what it was I thought it was from some paint I bought and threw it out , Can you belive it. Knowing now what I had, just makes me sick I think about it every day.

Very long, I am bored at work today:
Under the back seat I found a $45 check from Allstate. It was a check for a claim on the car. I figured I would find the owner and gain some valuable history on the car. I did an internet search on the name of the person on the check it was made out to. The good thing is that I knew the car spent most of its life in North Carolina. First call was the correct person. I explained to the gentleman the reason for my call. Of course he was hesitant at first but after describing some items about the car that only me and him would have known he opened up. He was shocked that their is still some honest people left in the world and was great full. He gave me his address and I promised him I would send the check to him, I did. As far as valuable information, unfortunately he didn't have any. He owned the car for about 5 years, didn't do anything to it, it mostly sat so that is why he sold it. Couldn't give me any info on who he bought it from, to long ago and didn't really know the guy. I bought it from the guy he sold it to and he didn’t do anything with it
either.
PS
The check was for a broken windshield, a baseball hit it.

Its funny that this thread started out about a machbox car. Back in 94' I had my 68 apart for paint, and it was sitting in the garage while I was working on an assortment of items pertaining to my car and all the while I had my two year old daughter out there with me, and she too, had a bunch of hotwheels, and matchbox cars. I was wonderin where all the cars were dissapearing to. Well, recently when I have been taking my 68 apart again for my restoration I have been finding hotwheels and matchbox cars inside my fenders, rear quarters and such. now my daughter is fifteen years old and I tried to return thos toy cars to her, but she is only interested in one car------my 68!, Go figure!.........007

I found a pair of drive in ticket stubs under the back seat. They were from the Lincoln Drive In, Buena Park, Ca. They date to the early 70's. The car had a dealer emblem from Jim Rathmann Chev, Melborne Fl. on the back.

It seems unlikely that many cars from the era made it from one side of the country to the other that early in their existance.

In the camaro, have found an old box of matches and a pack of matches from a hotel with a girl's name and number on it.
While restoring the Cuda, pulled the windshield and found a WWII picture taken in Germany! I think one of the persons in the picture is the 'old man' I bought the car from. I never ended up calling him to let him know I had found it. When I bought the car, he was starting to get Alzhiemer's anyhow, so he most likely would not have remembered.

I had two uncles that owned a NAPA store years ago. One guy came in with a baby rattle and a note attached "I bet it took you a long time to find this rattle!" I can't remember the car, but I do know it was welded inside two panels. A line worker would have been the only one to put it in there. I also heard stories of finding tools inside of panels.

I found about $3 in change so that will help offset the cost of the rebuild! However while replacing my door panels this weekend, I saw what appeared to be a build sheet in the rear drivers side window access holes. After cutting and sraping my arms up and trying to surgically remove the document, I was dissappointed to find out it was a wadded up section of the classifieds.

I've heard some stories like this in the past and I always wondered if they were true or were 'urban folktales'. If the stories really are true, then the American auto industry deserves the predicament it is in right now. And that's coming from a die-hard Chevy man!

Under the cowl panel of my '69 I just found a small plastic silver charm with a 4 leaf clover on it, and a faded note that said something along the lines of
Bill,
Call me when you get home from C U R.
I ne d to talk to y .
L v ,
T a

So either a previous owner had the same name as me, or my girlfriend in highschool, Tina, left the note on my car and it slipped through the cowl vents before I read it. I hope whatever she needed wasn't important. :D As for the little 4 leaf clover charm, that feels like a good omen, I think I'll leave it where I found it.

Unfortunately, the thing I was looking for when I pulled the cowl off - the hidden vin - was not there. :(

When I first started to dismantle my 69 Camaro coupe back in 1996, I found a check the original owner had written out but never used. It fell into the defroster ducts and sat there ever since. I saved it in my paperwork folder for the car. Pretty cool. It was dated 1979 I believe. I will have to check and post a picture of it....

Having spent half my earlier years working in auto salvage yards, it would take days to list everything I've found. 2 that top the list are a ladies diamond Bulova watch that was appraised at $1000 found when I was removing the seats from A VW Rabbit & a loaded .45 auto pistol found in a Ford pickup... Having to dismantle badly wrecked vehicles at times I've also found some stuff I'd rather not think about..

I bought a 69 Z/28 from the second owner about ten years ago that still had misc papers i nthe glove box dated back to 72. One of the papers was a reciept from ellison performance in Cincinatti Oh with what I thought was the original owner. I did a search on the internet and found five people under that name and sent letters to them all. Turnes out the name was from a friend who had that engine work done on his "a different Z/28. The swapped engines since he was getting ready to trade his car in. The friend called me and explained this and also put me in touch with the original owner who sent me pictures of the car when new as well as the POP.

I really wanted an orignial radio, the original I had was okay but could use an improvement on some of its parts. I bought another original radio from a member here to combine the two and make a good radio out of all original parts. When I recieved the radio I found that the tuning needle moved fine but when it got to the middle it would stop and the dial would not even turn. I began disassembly for parts and found wasps or hornets had built a little home out of mud back there with there fossilized remains still inside.
