So Im getting ready to get my old, beat up subframe cleaned up ready to bolt back up to the body. One question I have about restoring it is the main cross member, under the oil pan is caved in a bit where its been jacked up or bottomed out way to much. I have seen pictures where that area is cut out and straighted, then welded back in place or perhaps replaced. Has anyone done this or have some other way of getting that part of the frame straight?

Here is a pic from DetroitSpeed where they did this

Not sure if I want to cut up the frame.. Im new to welding so it maybe more than I should tackle. Any suggestions?

I did the cut and weld routine and fixed the body mounts. Pics here...http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2217852/5 It came out OK. Wasn't all that much work.

How bad is your subframe??...Jb

My subframe looks alot like your pictures. Same dent in the subframe, and where it was towed using a chain. Did you replace the metal on the x-member or cut it out, straighten, then weld it back? Nice work on the car by the way!

That is new metal for the patch and body mounts.

Thanks for the compliment...Jb
