Pretty smart marketing idea. now if we could get them to auction the 5th gen we'd have something!

RobSS1113 Jul 11th, 07, 09:56 AM thats Wrong .. they cant even get the Year Correct .. it was I believe a 75 Model .. or 74... whatever year .. they picked the worst year camaro and I know it was not the 77 model !
Everett#2390 Jul 11th, 07, 10:10 AM Who cares what year it ain't?.......it's the donation, your tax deduction, you're bidding on.
Shipping costs are cheap, $13?
DjD Jul 11th, 07, 10:18 AM '74 - '77 is the big bumper Camaro. I don't know enough about 2nd gens to really tell but I would think the title on the car would be correct... What makes that car the worst year?
Gambitt Jul 11th, 07, 11:01 AM I think that was a quote from the guy that picked that year Camaro for the movie, he said something along the lines that he wanted the worst year Camaro that still had a chrome bumper...I actually think those bumpers are aluminum, but the untrained eye wouldn't know the difference. I had a 76 Camaro and it was a good car...it ran and drove like a dream.
BonzoHansen Jul 11th, 07, 11:29 AM I'm really going to make flash cards. A 74 has a small back window like the 70-73. All the Bumblebees I have seen are w/o a doubt a 75-77. Pics really can't futher define it. Especially on a modified version.
74-77 bumpers are aluminum. With 18 tons of steel brackets behind the front one.
What makes that car the worst year?Opinons, and we know how they are....

Wow.. That didn't take long
cr8zy68 Jul 11th, 07, 09:47 PM They misspelled Camaro. And Cragar. Sigh. ;)
novaderrik Jul 11th, 07, 10:12 PM http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o272/klshumway/bumblebeeengine.jpg
funny, this aint what the engine looked like in the movie..
and has anyone seen a "double pump" carb that used a single rubber hose going to the driver's side of the front fuel bowl?
68 Ragtop Jul 11th, 07, 10:55 PM I have not seen the movie yet, but have no doubt this is the real deal.
I live a few blocks from this place and they do alot of movie cars. Lots of film industry related business in El Segundo.
Every August we have a big car show downtown and this place always brings the real movie cars, and they look very fake in person!
Last year they brought a real life Matter tow truck from Cars, even though the movie version was animated!
And I am pretty sure I had a Holley double pumper with a single feed on the drivers side. I forget the model #, it may have been a spreadbore?

When are they planning to start selling the 5th gen anyway?
rbanks40 Jul 12th, 07, 03:06 PM I read in HotRod magazine that it was a 76 camaro. Also the 5th gen will be coming out Aug 08.
DjD Jul 12th, 07, 04:16 PM Also the 5th gen will be coming out Aug 08.
Is that from GM? I heard it would go into production the last quarter '08 and be available sometime in early '09
rbanks40 Jul 12th, 07, 09:45 PM I apologize that is what I originally heard and with a little deeper research I found out that unfortunately the fifth gen won't be available until the first quarter 2009.
novaderrik Jul 12th, 07, 11:45 PM what i don't get is why they don't have the new Camaro version of Bumblebee in the stores yet. they have the old "beater" version- and they seem to be selling pretty well- but not the '09 version.
it can't be GM not wanting it out there- they spent millions of $$$ getting their vehicles in the movie and making tv ads with cars that transform, and having the new Camaro available as a toy would be even more cheap marketing for them to help "build the brand".
and how many Mustangs is Ford gonna sell, even tho the bad cop car in the movie was technically a Saleen S281, and not a Mustang? i think they got the better deal- refuse to allow your product in the movie because Barricade is a bad robot, and then sell a bunch of Mustangs because the general public doesn't know the difference.
angelglo Jul 13th, 07, 01:12 AM i think that could be a 77. but it could also be a 75 or 76. i believe 75-77 were pretty close in exterior looks
DanW Jul 13th, 07, 09:35 AM Among the other props this company is selling is this box from the Transformers:

I haven't seen this movie, but it doesn't seem worth this kind of coin.

When it's for charity you can never second guess... The box could actually be looked at as art as opposed to some of the other swag they are offering...

Ok, I didn't scroll down to see that proceeds benefit charity. That changes everything.
novaderrik Jul 13th, 07, 09:56 AM that isn't just a "box"..
it's the allspark.. the thing that gives all transformers life.
if you saw the show on the History channel a couple of months ago about when they auctioned off a bunch of the old Star Trek props, you'd understand how this stuff can be worth so much money.
hell, it's no different than paying $150k or more for a 69 Camaro that just happened to have an aluminum big block installed at the factory and retailed for $7k when it was new. or paying a few million $$$ for a Mopar pony car that just happened to have a big block with huge valve covers that have spark plug wires popping out of the center of them installed on the assembly line.
a movie prop is just as useful as a car that you don't dare drive, and can evoke the same kinds of emotions in people.

I can see how props from classics like Star trek can bring huge money, but this movie is just out and may never become a classic.
Some wealthy person is speculating, or kids are having fun running up the bid with no way to pay.
Remember the General Lee charity ebay sale from a few months ago?
novaderrik Jul 13th, 07, 04:15 PM Transformers isn't something new- the first toys and cartoon came out in 1984, and there is an entire generation of geeks (myself included) that think it was the greatest thing ever. the 1986 animated movie has a HUGE following, and Hasbro and the movie studio made a killing on the 20th anniversary dvd last year- and i'd bet most of those sales were to people that already had the "regular" edition that came out a few years ago, and a good chunk of them also own it on VHS and still have a big pile of transformers toys.
it's like the new Star Wars movies- the hardcore fans that say they hated it see it in the theaters 3 or 4 times, then buy it on dvd- all while complaining over the internet about how much it sucks. it's one of those "instant classic" types of movies.

Ok, I didn't realize Transformers had such a big following already. I only remember them as toys and cartoons from the 80's.
If you check the Bumblebee and Allspark auctions now, you will see the high bids have been cancelled by the seller and bidding pre approval now required.

LOL... Pre approval has been there since the first day it listed and only 2 bids have been cancled. Out of 149 bids that isn't too bad. Does show there is always a clown in every crowd though...

Sorry, I hadn't noticed the pre approval before. I do see a cancelled bid of $390,000 and $75,100 just today, so that means the bogus bids are still getting through on a pre approved auction!
It looks like they are following up with the high bidders and cancelling questionable bids. Probably a good idea after the $10,000,000 bogus bid on General Lee.

I hope that whoever wins this thing turns out to be a member (or will end up becoming a member) of Team Camaro. Then he/she/it can tell us all about what their plans for it are.
novaderrik Jul 14th, 07, 01:36 AM i don't think that car will ever be changed. some rich Transformers geek is gonna get it and park it in a sealed plastic bag.
if i had the money, i would be that geek..
i wonder what happened to all the other prop cars and trucks? how cool would it be to own the real Optimus Prime from the movie?
pdq67 Jul 14th, 07, 06:58 AM Geez, and I thought my love for car mag's was pretty lame..

I just came from Premiere Props where they are having a live Ebay auction.
Bumblebee was not part of the live auction, but I did ask one of the auctioners about how thier Ebay auctions are run. He stated the auction starts out without pre approval being required, and that after a certain dollar amount, the auction becomes pre approval required, and they cancel bids they are unable to confirm.
So Dennis, LOL back at ya!
If anyone is interested in movie prop auctions, this is live and on Ebay today (Saturday) till 11:00 pm. No Transformer stuff though.

DjD Jul 14th, 07, 04:01 PM Ya got me James... Not! This Auction has gone all over the place, when you saw 3 retractions I saw 2 and now there is only 1 and teh total number of bids is only 76 not 149 like there was before...
As for how pre-approval works it's how the seller sets it up to be, there is no automatic way to have it not be pre-approved then switch to pre-approved at a certain amount. Sure the seller might be able to start approving bidders mid stream but it's the sellers doing not an ebay thing...

Well Dennis, I am just telling you what the profesional auctioneer running many large auctions through Ebay told me. He may be incorrect, but since Ebay can automatically block bidder names after a certain dollar amount is reached, his explanation seemed reasonable to me.
And I really don't care to argue a silly point with a smart alec board moderator that has an apparent need to always be correct. It feels like I am banging my head on the wall, so I am going to stop now.

Two way street...
Brackneyc Jul 14th, 07, 08:38 PM I see plenty of cars that look just like this one driving all over in my town. This is akin to buying the hair of Elvis IMO. I just don't see the attraction, Transformer or not. Before, we had to worry about over priced, over done cars. Now we have to consider old crap looking rigs that were on the set of a movie. I guess this is just one more step towards the eventual total and complete saturation of anything remotely attached to muscle cars.
Maybe guys will begin taking mint condition cars, and turing them into movie set replicas.

the country is already full of Bumblebee replicas.. 90% of all mid 70's Camaros i see look pretty much like that car.
but none of them were the "hero car" in a blockbuster movie about cars that turn into robots and kick ass.
