I know this is a long shot but I got a call from a old boy today that found this old "car in a barn" and he asked me to decode the tag for him. I got the basics but he thinks it is a COPO and he wanted me to verify. Thanks for any help. Ge claims it was a BB car originally.

The 038 should be 03B

Here's the trim tag decode:

Decode for body number: 285038

03B = Built the Second week of March.
69-12437 = Coupe.
NOR = Built in Norwood Ohio.
727 = Standard Ivory/Black Bucket Seats.
55-50 = Lower Color is Azure Turquoise and the Top Color is Dover White.
X44 = non-SS, non-Z28, without style trim

Unfortunately, a COPO really cant be determined from the trim tag alone.

The car is somewhere in Fla. in a barn that was damaged by a tornado. I can't get much more than that out of him. I'll get the vin and post if it's possible. I thought the color combo and the mention of it being an original BB car made it very interesting. Thanks for the info.

A two-toned COPO would be extra special! :D

No, it's not a COPO.

OK Kurt, I believe you, but share your rationale!

Ok, I talked to the guy who located the car again today and he will not give me any more info. We live in Md. He said the car was in Florida. So unless he coughs up some more details we won't ever know. I asked, but he is holding back for some reason. I doubt it's a copo anyway. Cool color combo though.

Kurt, you mean clustered build dates?

I'm not sure what you mean, but I guess yes, the cluster of 03B built dates and some before and after.
