You know I never really thought about it but I have 5w-30 in my 302. I did a search to see what I should have in it but came up dry. 10-40? I don't think I am doing something awful by having 5-30 in there but I'm sure it isn't ideal. Until the 69 I had only had newer cars 2 of which were lt1 cars and all of those were 5-30. I just wasn't thinking when I changed the oil in the thing. I guess I was just ignoring the internals and going , "yeah small block 5w-30.

I have used Quaker State 10W 40 in all of my old cars (even when they were daily drivers) and have never had a problem.

I did a search for engine oil and got a few hits- many will deal with 302's.

I've been using Mobil 1 20/50 synthetic for years with no problems.
