Hello I am doing an engine swap on my 1998 v6 camaro. It has a blown motor and was wondering for anyone else who has done it, do you think it would be easier to unhook the tranny from the engine. Or should i unhook the driveshaft instead? Also its an auto tranny. And one last thing is that i am pullin the engine from above.

i did on a 96. faster to take the motor and trans, out the bottom took me an hour to get it out on a lift and air tools. what motor are you getting? the only way to get it out the top is to pull motor by itself then trans out the bottom to me thats to much work i had more time in getting stuff swaped over than pulling it out

its a diff 3800 series II motor. Im on a budget thats why im doin it through the top i cant afford a car lift. I got the motor for a couple hundred and the engine hoist for 20. Its just to get the car runnin good to get me to school and work. But thanks for the advice wit the engine pullin too

I've seen people drop the engine+trans out the bottom by using an engine hoist to lift the front end of the car. Here's one write-up I found on google:
