: A/C Box Color

I pulled the a/c box from the firewall of my '69 today. Can anyone tell me the correct way to paint this box? Do you actually paint it with some sort of semigloss black or do you use some sort of clear coat on it. The black color on the box is somewhat faded. The black color under this box gives me a good color sample to go after for the rest of the firewall.
Thanks for any advice.

They are not painted, they are a natural dark gray fiberglass material.

Check out the before pictures in this thread in the heating and A/C section

Mike,
Mark is correct in his description of the A/C box.
On my Chevelle, I used some polishing compound and lots of elbow grease to get the "correct " color, then I waxed it. Looked brand new.

This is a follow-up to this older post. I tried to apply a rubbing compound to the A/C box but the results were unsatisfactory. I tried another method and had good results. I cleaned the box really well and then sprayed it with several coats of 'Clear'. This worked really well and kept the color of the box a gray sort of color as per stock. I don't how long this will last but it looks good now. Thanks.
