I'm trying to verify if I've located my original four speed.
My vin # is 124378L344772
What would the partial vin stamped on the Muncie look like?
What about the source code?
I plan to buy it back from the second owner and want to confirm first.

Most Camaro Muncies have a partial VIN (last 6 digits) on the side of the main case above & to the left of the fill/drain plug & just forward of where the tailshaft housing attaches.
Yours should read 18L344772 ... Division (1), Year (8), Plant(L), Sequence # (344772).
That would be an amazing find!

I'm still waiting to hear from this person on the stamp. If it is what he says, I'm planning on a 7 hour or so road trip. I'm not sure I want it shipped without inspecting it first.
After thumbing through the 68 Camaro package GM sends out, I read that if it is a M21 it had to be a 350 or 375 hp motor. A M22 would be only 375 hp and a M20 would be a 325 hp motor. Is this accurate? If so, the tranny could somewhat prove what version the car is.

M20 for 396/325. M20 or M21 for 396/350. M21 or M22 for 396/375. Go here.http://www.camaros.org/diffs68.shtml
