I have tried all day long to remove the ignition switch lock cylinder on my 69 camaro. I removed the steering wheel and signal lights. I have a slot on the side of the cylinder but sticking a screwdriver into the slot only removed the bezel nut but not the cylinder itself.

Any suggestions would be appreciated?

Ther is a little pin you have to push as you pull it out. It is on the inside by the key buzzer switch. Use a small screw driver or allen wrench.

If it's the original lock cylinder, there's some alloy casting in the steering column that has to be cleared to get to the cylinder's spring clip. Do you have a new cylinder? If so, note where the spring clip is and then you can see where the casting has to be cleared so you can access the clip. Hard to explain,..perhaps someone has a photo.

I might also suggest downloading my papers on the A and F-car 1969-76 steering columns.

Go to: www.corvettefaq.com
Click on Jim Shea's Steering Articles
Click on A & F-car Steering Papers
Scroll down to either the Standard (non-adjustable) Column section or to the Tilt Column section.

Download Disassembly & Repair Paper #1 and Disassembly & Repair Pic #1 for the appropriate type column.
