Does anyone have experience with the mechanical piston pump from from racepumps. I am considering converting to EFI but my car has always been electically challenged no matter the large alternator. Opinions?

I have heard good and bad about them...leaking was one of them as well as vapor lock, but I read some where that they have pretty much cured these probs...
Also I read that with the EFI, you have to PRIME the throttle body, that is you have to put fuel down it to get it started once you shut it off, as not being electric, the fuel pump does not pressurise the system until it's running...I think I read that on their web site.

I wanted to run on too, as I don't care for electical items, but until I know more, I gonna wait on it. Don't know if I wanna prime my car every time I shut it off...suppose I can live with it, kinda would be like mechanical fuel injection!....Hmmm..............

I know nothing about these personally, but there was a write up in one of the car mags just recently. The one and only draw back was that the fuel system could lose pressure over time and be hard to start. It sounded from the artilce like this wouldn't be a problem for a daily driver that doesn't sit for long periods, but that it would be for a car not driven regularly.

From what I understand it is a piston pump or positive displacement. I understand that it eliminates the need for a return line, but I do not know how the pressure regulation works. My brain says it will work, but I don't want to be the test case.

We must have been typing at the same time. A positive displacement pump should rebuild lost pressure very quickly in my experience with other machinery. I think this would work. I think I will contact the EFI manufactrerers and get their opinion. I don't think their primary business is electric fuel pumps.
