I had a trunk lid on my 69 Camaro that stucks out 1/2" on the passenger side even though the gap by the rear cowl was spaced evenly across from the left quarter to the right one.
I replaced this lid with another one that I got at a salvage yard and I have the same problem with this one.
Someone told me that there was a problem with some of the later trunk lids on the 69 & from a certain point on they had a fit problem. (late year 69- early year 70)
Does anyone know the story on this and how I can get this right?
Thanks

I don't know if that story is true or not, but there is alot of different things that can affect the fit of the trunklid. Do you know if the car has ever been wrecked? Have you checked the hinges to see if maybe one or both of them are bent? Just some things to think about.

You have to get out a measuring tape! First cross measure the deck lid opening. This is not real easy when you don't have "targets" like bolts or something but it can be done. If you measure across from the left front to the right rear right on the edge and at the farthest point to farthest point. Then do the same from the right front to the left rear and see if they are the same. Then measure from the front of the opening to the rear and see if they are the same. If you get a long straight edge and run it across the front of the opening you can have a line to measure back from.
You can also measure out the deck lids the same way. If a lid is twisted (though it would have to me a bunch) it could end up shorter on one side.
I suspect some bodyman (well sort of) repaired (well sort of) the rear of the car after being hit hard. He didn't pull the rear back far enough or installed the quarter on wrong.

Where is the 1/2" off? Is is the gap on one 1/4's 1/2" to wide, if so I agree with the above responces. If the gaps are even on both 1/4s and the rear filler panel, but 1/2" to high then you will need to shim, and possibly "arch" the deck lid.

Thanks for the quick response guys!
The rear lip of the trunk lid extends past the rear of the right quarter panel by 1/2".
The quarter panel doesn't appear to have had any work done to it nor has it been replaced.
The left corner of the trunk lid near the cowl is about 1/4" lower than the body which is probably a bad hinge or one that needs to be shimmed where as the right corner is flush with the body. The line between the rear cowl (by the top) and the lid is evenly spaced 1/8- 1/4 "....
I am confused on what to do about this...
Any suggestions?
Thanks again!

I would try to shim it first to get it at the same hight as the rear filler panel. You might be supprised at how many things change when shims are installed. You will most likely need the shim(s) at the rear bolt(closest to the pivit point) of the hinge. Give it a try, and let us know how it comes out.

And measure the opening as I described. A measureing tape will take the mystery out of it.
