Is all that is needed to change the headlamps from standard to the RS hidden the new fenders on a 69? I have the hidden lamp kit available to me but have yet to order the fenders. Is there anything else I need besides the kit and fenders?

Assuming the new fenders include the weld on RS only bracket, you should be ok. The bracket is located at the front of the fender for the headlight surround mounting.

I think there is some drilling/modifications to be made on the wheel wells for RS mounting hardware.

Jeff is correct! Not only small holes for mounting the canister and other parts. You'll need to drill holes for the bell cranks that open and close the doors... As for other parts don't forget the headlight switch.. Don't know know if they come with the kit...

I don't believe that the brackets for the fenders are available for '69, so you would have to find RS fenders. You will also have to cut out the rear valance for the back up lights. In other words, you will have to remove all of the front end sheet metal, change all of the grillework, and chop up the rear valance. Plus, if you run a big cam you will not have enough vacuum to operate the things. Not a easy swap.

CarlC,

I have a big cam and a RS and my lights do work but they are slow!!! Another solution would be to buy a electric vaccumm pump from Master Power Brakes mpbrakes.com/mp27.htm (http://mpbrakes.com/mp27.htm) so the vaccuum needed could be supplied by the electric pump instead of the engine (cost @ 270.00). I run 4 wheel disc brakes and AC as well with no problems GENERALLY.

I pull 11 inches of vaccumm at idle whick is a little low. 15-17inches is really what is needed for efficient operation of the RS headlights.

Don't forget also you will have to change out the standard tailights with the rally sport tailights because the standard tailights have the reverse lights and the rally sport tailights do not. That is why you have separate reverse light lamps in the lower valance panel on the RS.

The headlamp switch is also different because the RS headlight switch had vaccunn lines going to it.

sr71,

Were in the same boat. Mine open slowly and will close if given enough driving time. 11 inches at idle on a small block for me. I had the same idea for the vacuum pump but did not want to spend the big $$. An altenative that Torker and I are playing with is a vacuum pump off an 80's 4 cylinder GM car. You can get them from the boneyard for $20. The problem I have is that with ac/ps/pb/headers/rs/battery/ignition I have no more underhood room to put anything.

I am running into this same problem. Does anyone have instructions on where to drill the hole? How big does it need to be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

They do sell the 69 RS brackets for the fenders. The aftermarket fenders has the bracket already on them. The brackets can be bolted to the regular fenders. That is what I did to my car. I dont even have motors on my lights. I just leave my covers shut when I drive at night. The lights still shine thru the covers. But if you have the extra money go for it.

You can also operate the covers with electric motors. There are instructions in the electrical sticky section. I can help with more details if you want. You can also buy kits fro DSE and retroelectric. also do not forget the tail light wiring harness. The RS operates both inner and outer lenses for brakes and turn signal.
