: Brake hose problems...
mbmmca Jul 27th, 07, 06:47 PM I will explain this to the best of my ability...
I have disc brakes on the front. I have no idea where they came from or off of. The black rubber hose from the bracket on the frame, down to the back of the single piston caliper was crimped at the fitting sleeve. My thought was to use 69 rubber hoses (square end) but the bolts are all too long. The crimped line issue is only on the LH side. RH side looks good.
Any ideas??
mbmmca Jul 27th, 07, 06:54 PM Pics of the respective sides. RH with line, LH without. LH was pinched. I found the original thread from when I was going looking for parts at NPD...So far nothing I have tried fits. (I don't know how to link it...) Someone said I have banjo lines and they are for drum?? Now I am really confused...
hereitis67 Jul 27th, 07, 07:36 PM mary beth a banjo nut is a bolt going through the brake line and a washer on each side. go to ricks site and under brakes. look at a 69 disk brake line part number J379S its also longer than a 67 brake line so as it dont bend in half when turning all the way.
mbmmca Jul 27th, 07, 07:41 PM Unfortunately those blasted bolts are too long. We can only get them in 1/2 way before they bottom out. We tried cutting one off but now it is too short. Does anyone make or know the proper length of the bolts? The ones I have are Ground Up #EBH-003 and bolt kit #EBB-691.
JimM Jul 27th, 07, 07:49 PM MB, from the looks of those brackets and the hardline I see, your's was originally a drum brake car, and was changed to disks by a PO. YHour hardlines come over the framerails and down, like my old drum setup.
This means the line will be a different length than a 69 disk brake car. It als means the calipers are "unknown"
Maybe BelairBob or Frank could get you the lines you need, I believe right stuff detailing specifically lists them as well.
First tho, we need to positively identify the calipers. I'd thought all those single piston calipers had the same banjo bolt connection? Is there a part number or casting number on them? how bought some better pics? Bet one of the guys will know where they came form.
mark x22 Jul 27th, 07, 07:54 PM the thread size for the banjo bolt and drum brake hose are the same .that's why it fit . the hose and bleeder valve should be on top like this .http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f58/markx22/SSRS/th_mikes3-17-07021.jpg (http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f58/markx22/SSRS/mikes3-17-07021.jpg)
mbmmca Jul 27th, 07, 07:55 PM Let me see what I can do for pics...

The first thing I noticed is what Mark pointed out. If those are normal GM single piston calipers. They are on the wrong sides. The hose connection and the bleeder should be up top.
mbmmca Jul 27th, 07, 08:08 PM Caliper Pic...and casting numbers
Front: 12845, H11X, 890
Back: NOM2, 5488700
JimM Jul 27th, 07, 08:10 PM the thread size for the banjo bolt and drum brake hose are the same .that's why it fit . the hose and bleeder valve should be on top like this .http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f58/markx22/SSRS/th_mikes3-17-07021.jpg (http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f58/markx22/SSRS/mikes3-17-07021.jpg)
The single piston calipers I've seen used a banjo bolt and 2 wahsers, as mark pictured.
It's drums that use a brakehose that screws straight in.
mark x22 Jul 27th, 07, 08:11 PM Eric some calipers have the hose on the bottom with the bleeder on top . i think its chevelle and that body type .

Here's your previous thread you were looking for, I think. Parts store told you the were 72 Vette calipers.
http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=103529
Wait, no, they siad the lines were 72 vette... dang I'm confused.
mbmmca Jul 27th, 07, 08:17 PM Believe it or not these calipers are labeled L and R and they are on the right sides...Is anyone able to run the GM numbers?
Eric Kammerer Jul 27th, 07, 08:27 PM I'm looking, but the bits and parts of Chevy By the Numbers don't have that number.
mbmmca Jul 27th, 07, 08:41 PM how about 5469700
hereitis67 Jul 27th, 07, 09:50 PM mary beth. i did this also when doing my 67.i couldnt find nothing to fit.i broke down and called ricks and bought the complete stainless braking system. look at your master cylinder see if you gota big and a small reservoir. yours my be half azzed like mine was.i ended buying the complete kit for 850.with master and power brakes also.i know money is scarce for you also. shop around i seen them for 600 bux.ssb-4 in ricks.i also found out stainless steel braking system sells direct to public.after the fact tho.
Eric Kammerer Jul 28th, 07, 05:18 AM MB, what is wrong with the banjo bolts that were on the calipers? Unless the dog ate them, is there a reason that they can't be re-used with the 69 hoses? If they are okay, you could just put new copper crush washers on either side of the banjo on the hose, bolt 'em up and be done.
The brackets on your frame where the hardlines meet the hoses are from the original drum setup, but if the fitting will go into the 69 hose and you can clip it to the bracket, it should work fine. Ordinarily it would make the hose several inches longer than it needs to be, but if you have to connect lower on the caliper to use those calipers, it may work out okay.
Worse comes to worse, you can get reman 69 Camaro calipers. They are right around $25 each loaded.
mark x22 Jul 28th, 07, 07:46 AM http://www.pozziracing.com/brakes.htm#Converting_Drums_to_Discslook at Davids link near the bottom of the page . it shows a monte carlo caliper with the hose coming out the bottom like Marybeth's . and the bleeder valve on top .
mbmmca Jul 28th, 07, 08:06 AM Eric, there were no bolts. The hoses that were on the car were not banjo type. Rick's spart #J717 is what we pulled off. When I took that hose to the local Autozone they told me it belonged on a 72 Vette. Now I am seeing that it has other uses....and my brakes may be 69 camaro? However, the bolts for the 69 lines don't fit into the calipers above.
Where would I find remaned calipers?
BPOS Jul 28th, 07, 10:42 AM Any decent auto parts store can get you the rebuilt calipers. A "loaded" caliper will get you pads as well. Just ask for a set of 69 Camaro fronts.
mbmmca Jul 29th, 07, 06:38 AM We're still trying to ID the number on my calipers, but I have now run out of resources. Anyone else have any luck?? We were able to confirm my engine as a 400sbc built 2-9-76 but I don't have anything outside of the camaros and vettes...
