: Emblem placement - Does this look correct?

I just purchased the emblem placement stencil kit for my 69 SSRS big-block from Rick's First Generation Parts. Even though the emblem I've used in the following pic is the wrong one, the 396 emblem has the exact placement pins and is the same size so it would mount in exactly the same place. I used the 350 emblem because it was cleaner and showed up better in the pic.
Please tell me what your opinion is on the placement of the emblems. They say that this is the correct placement of the emblems according to GM. I've seen a couple of pics with emblems slightly above the marker light, but by far the majority were even and in-line with the marker light. Thanks so much, Paul

Paul, my fenders are not factory originals, (bondo time) but my emblem is perfectly in line with the marker bezel, top and bottom. Kevin

I like old road tests for this sort of question. I dug out 2 1969 Camaro 396 features: April 1969 Popular Hot Rodding and
May 1969 Car Life. Both show the 396 emblem in line with the side marker bezel.

You should work on the fit of that fender before paint. The junction of the fender and upper grille panel should result in a virtually straight surface for mounting the grille & reinforcement. Left as is there will be a noticable gap. It is easy to fix. Loosen all the fender extension bolts. Place a block of wood inside the fender at the end with grille removed. Floor jack until straight.

Paul, the emblems should be even with the marker light. My 69 had no emblems so I had to drill the holes for them. Man was it painful to drill the first hole.

I don't remember the distance from the light, but it should be even with it.

Good luck http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

I'm no expert ,but the one on top of the fender by the hood doesn't look right http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

seriously though my 69 fenders appear to be org.unrestored (so far) and the 350 lines up with the marker.

I have 3 69's and they are also inline with the marker light bazel. I also looked at some close up photo's in my camaro reference book by John R Hooper, and my camaro chevy's classy chassis by Ray Miller. They also look like there in line with the marker bazel.

I can't thank you guys enough for all the replies. I also can't believe that I drilled the holes this way. I remember saying to myself "if a high-profile Camaro parts company takes the time and effort to sell a kit like this "it must be correct". They most likely wouldn't sell a kit with a glitch like this- would they?? NAAAHHH!!!
Well, it looks like I'll be warming up the welder again. Oh, before I forget. Please be aware that the makers or distributors of this emblem placement stencil kit are in NO-WAY held responsible for anything (repairs) according to the liability sheet they include with the kit. Anyway, thanks again for all the input. As far as the fender and header panel alignment, I'll be taking care of that this week. Many thanks to all of you. Sincerely, Paul

I just ordered the templates for the SS emblems on the fenders and the quarter trim louvres. I hope this isn't a common problem! My paint is done, so redoing the holes are out!

Anyone else had problems with the templates?

Joe G,
I used this same stencil kit on my 69 SS 350. They can be used as a guide to get the emblems strait but don't rely on where they tell to you to drill for the studs.

I have the same problem as Paul1969 does the only thing is I didn't check the front emblem to marker light alignment and now it's too late cause my car is painted stripe and all.

Here's an old post:
http://www.camaros.net/forum/Forum3/HTML/000336.html

Using the Assembly Instruction Manual for dimentions and the emblem as a template is the best, and least expesive, way to go.

Carl, JP, thanks for the advice. I recieved the templates today. I have the Assembly Manual (the bible!). I was having a hard time finding a starting point to measure from using the manual. Between the two I hope I can get it right! http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

Measure 10 times, drill once!

I checked the templates for the engine sixe locations. This set of templates also puts the numbers slightly below centerline of the side maker lights. The description makes it seem that this is the "correct, updated" location from the factory!
What a shame.....

Hi All,

Well, based on the templates I received, the only dispute I had was with the engine displacement badges. All the others seemed to be patterned correctly.
One area where a question arose while using the templates was the "Camaro and SS" emblem placement on the rear of the fenders. The template for each side used a line which was used to represent either the front edge of the door or the back edge of the fender. Although this line was marked as the front edge of the door, I believe it may have been mislabeled and might actually represent the back edge of the fender.
It sounds a bit confusing, but if you already have the kit, I think you'll see what I'm talking about. I ended up using the back edge of the fender as a point to line-up the stencil. If I had used the leading edge of the door, it seemed as though it wouldn't have been correct.
