View Full Version : Tire clearance - Hotchkis coils

I am hoping to run my existing tires and wheels for a couple of months, so that leads me into the question: I just installed the Hotchkis TVS kit my wheels and tires are 235-60R15 front, 255-60R15 rear. I do not know the back spacing, but the rears are old school deep dish. I can get by with the rear with the aid of the air shocks that came on the car. However - the front? With the lower springs I am wondering if my tires will clear the wheel wells. I do not have the engine in, and based on the advice given here I have not installed the coil spring isolators.

What do you guys think? Put the isolators in right now while the car is still in the air (for a couple more days-and simple to put in), or am I safe to leave them out?

Once again this set up is somewhat temporary. I am going with 17's front and rear soon, but not now. I can't get the rims through Summit until late August. I want to burn the pi$$ out of the tires, because they are probably 75-80% of new. Acutally, I would also like to defer the outlay another month or two as well. The receipt pile is rather high already.

Thanks in advance!

The back spacing is easy enough to measure. Lay a straight edge across the back side of the rim (not the tire) and then measure from the straight edge to the back side of the flat part that goes against the hub (for lack of a better term). Post that number and someone should be able to tell you if you're likely to have clearance issues with the Hotchkis coils. There is definitely a sweet spot - too much BS and your tires will the the subframe, and not enough your tires will hit the fender. Too much BS, up to a point, can be fixed with wheel spacers.
