View Full Version : stock a/c converting to aftermarket a/c
redvan Jul 31st, 07, 09:30 PM I have 69 that was originally equipped with factory a/c.
The problem is everything is missing under the hood, just a big hole on the firewall.
so my questions is ,should I buy the a/c delete box to cover the hole on the firewall and get a vintage air setup or try to go back to the stock system and find all these pieces?

parkbrau Aug 1st, 07, 12:07 AM You can still find all the pieces, just be patient. You see them on E-Pay once in a while.
All depends on if you want to stay original or go with the aftermarket.
Me...I would stay with originality.
hhott71 Aug 1st, 07, 07:30 AM There is A LOT more to the factory AC than the Evaporator box and blower on the firewall, compressor, condenser and hoses.
The venting, recirculation door, fresh air door, the blend air settings etc.
All the underhood parts are available with a little looking.
ProdigyCustoms Aug 1st, 07, 08:34 AM We have a new Vintage Air Gen IV that fills the factoiry A/C hole with a block late leaving nothing sticking out under the hood. Have sold a ton of them, did one a couple days ago, blew 42 degrees.

guccieng Aug 1st, 07, 01:48 PM i'm in the same boat. i don't have the numbers, but the cost of piecing the original system together was way more than a new vintage air gen II system installed. and the best original a/c can't compete with a vintage air, so i decided to ditch the original stuff. i guess it depends on how original you want to be.

I'll put the performance of an original A/C up against any vintage air system. R134A does not come close to the performance of an R-12 system.

I don't know man. Up until very recently I would agree with your statement, but the factory A/C will loose this competition now. I saw the thermometer at 42 degrees coming out of a GEN IV we just finished this past week, and blows probably a additional 50% harder then any factory system I have seen.
Remember, the new Gen IV was designed by Vintage Air for Ford for the new Ford GT (GT40 to most of us), and if it is good enough for a 2007 $200K car, it has got to be a little better then 40 Year Old technology
