View Full Version : Do 69 Disc Brakes on 67/68 Camaros push the wheel out another 1"?

I read a theory that 69 disc brake set-ups on 67/68's push the wheel out an additional 1" beyond stock due to the taller hub. Does anyone know if this is accurate?

My 68 has 69 brakes installed and the wheel does seem further out than stock (I'm running stock FW code 15x7's).

It's more like 1/2" to 9/16" per side.

David is the expert, but I do want to share my experience as well. I just installed tubular A-arms and the '69 style discs on my '67. Prior to the installation the tires (235-60R15) rubbed the frame on the firewall side. Now they do not touch, but the engine in not in the car yet - shouldn't make a difference though. So, the tires/wheels do move outward some.

Thanks--the theory is then correct--69 disc brakes move the wheel further out than what was original to 67/68 front disc brake cars.

On my car, that 1/2" would stop my tire from hitting the top of the fender. I'll just have to give it as much negative camber as I can to get it back inside the fender.

Thats at least 5 degrees negative camber if you put the top of the tire in 1/2". Too much for the street. Why not roll the fender?

No, it moves the wheel out 9/16" compared to a Drum brake Camaro, but not more than a 4 piston 67/68 Disc brake Camaro.
