I've been a Hot Rod reader most of my life. I currently subscribe and still have all the issues from 1976 to the present stored in catalogs in my garage. Don't ask me why since I rearely pull one off the shelf and read it again, but hey its impressive looking. ;) ---- anyway its easier to reach the fridge and get a beer than it is to reach up to the top shelf and get a magazine. :beers:

i had a subscription to super chevy and chevy high performance. i didn't care for them. i thought there was too many high dollar projects that were of no interest to me, and too many articles and pictures of peoples six figure cars. now i subscribe to popular hotrodding that i like much better. more tech articles and low budget high HP engine builds.

Hemmings Muscle Machines
Muscle Car Review
Hot Rod (have all issues going back to 1960)
Super Chevy (have most issues going back to 1971)
Chevy High Performance (last ten years on file)
Rod & Custom (have all going back to 1972)
Car Craft Last ten years on file)
Popular Hotrodding
Chevy Rumble (have every issue)
Super Rod
National Dragster (toss out every week)
I also have back issues of Cars magazine (from 1960 to 1972)

Not every issue is a gem, but I read them all to see different points of view. It is fun watching fads come and go over the decades. I am waiting for curb scrapers and fuzzy dice to come back into fashion. May not have long to wait; I saw a kid riding his bike the other day with orange plastic streamers on the handle bars, and baseball cards held in the spokes (only thing missing was his decoder ring and Davy Crockett coon skin hat).

One more vote for Hemmings Muscle Machines.

Not as much nonsense as the other mags

My favorites:
1. Hemmings Muscle Machines
2. Chevy High Performance
3. Popular Hot Rodding
4. Muscle Car Review (this is a great magazine too)

Subscriptions I have cancelled due to lack of interest:
Hot Rod (I may resubscribe but got tired of the s*x ads)
Car Craft
Super Chevy

Not to be contrary but...as much as I love the fact that Camaro Performers is devoted to 1st Gens--I now rarely buy it. It is thin, mostly ads and doesn't have much to offer. I can read the whole issue in 7 minutes at WalMart...

I have observed that Camaro Performers (Chevelle Performers and Nova Performers for that matter) are all reprints of articles that were previously published in the other Primedia mags. If you don t subscribe to them then it can be your Reader s Digest of Camaro information; but as pointed out for the price it is a little thin.

I have also discovered that it is cheaper to subscribe to all of the mag titles than to buy three or four titles of each a year because for about a buck an issue they arrive on my doorstep and I can read them without standing in front of the girlie mags at the Quikie mart. My collection of back issues started because I get so many magazine titles (I read more than just about hot rods) I would store them until I had "enough time" to read them and I m still waiting. Besides everybody saves back issues of National Geographic so that our kids have something to cut up for school projects.

Super Chevy
Camaro Performers

Popular Hot Rodding

Don't read Hot Rod anymore because I don't care about someone who dropped $75K to have a dozen different fab shops restore his '69 Z/28. I want hands-on stuff for guys like me who work on their own car in their spare time within a budget, yet manage to never let their wife know just exactly how much they spend!

Several of the above are at my local public library, I read them there...just as easy to dream there as at home. Playboy is also good, but sometimes there aren't even any cars in the entire issue!

Look at Chevy Punch!! I wrote an article on the installation of a Tremec TKO 5-speed that went into my 69 car. It was done at a friends shop up in Canada (MarkLW) by 3 "regular Joes". That's why Al made the rag in the first place...
