The black film sounds like overspray maybe? I would use some #0000 steel wool, this should clean them up. Are they pitted at all? Steel wool and some semi-gloss krylon (black) made mine look like new. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

i was just told the other day by our chrome guy that they can't chrome white metal.even if they could it would probably cost more than new.

Hi runninhorn, I'm not sure how to answer your last question. Have you never seen any 67-68 taillight bezels? Don't take that the wrong way, just need to know if you havn't, we'll try to explain it.

No, i guess i havent. I mean, ive seen tons of first gen camaros, just havent payed special attn to the bezels till recently. On mine, its like the outside and around the edges is chrome, but once you get into the part that slants into the lens, that part is black on mine. Is that the way its supposed to be?

Rechromed my 68 tail lights about 10 years ago. If the lights are pitted they will not turn out that good. Rechroming is not cheap especially if the place does good work.

I have the Moroso bezels. The design is not nearly as good as the original. The mounting studs are not threaded as the originals. Instead they use stamped sheet metal nuts which cannot be tightened very much. It's very touchy to get the moulded rubber body gaskets to seal. The light housing also does not fit all the way down onto the lens because the mounting pad is too high. A 1/2 hour of ginding fixed that but it is extra work that should not be necessary. I ASSumed that they would be better than the others but I have yet to see one.

RUNNINHORN:

believe it or not, the rear bezles are original, I had pits all over them , but I took a dremle multitool with the sandpaper wheel and ground them all off, then black primer and black lacquer in a can followed up by clear lacquer [sp] on top, wiped off the excess that went through the tape and polished the chrome. good as new.

I did that because new ones are 135+ each , and paint is only 4 bux a can.

Hey chris? Wasn't the black part of the bezel suppose to have a texture to it? http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

yes, mine still do , but some of the places on the bezle were pitting, so I ground them down, by using the sandpaper wheel on my dremel it kept the texture, and removed the pits and highspots. , after repainting them they look fine. not perfect, but good enough not to replace (yet)
