View Full Version : Wiper Ground Problem??

Heres the latest bug:

After fixing a ground problem in the gauge cluster, my wipers stopped working. I thought at first that I had knocked the switch loose, but no go.

Here is my question, I am reading 12v at each of the connectors on the wiper motor. From what I understand, the wiper switch works by grounding the wiper motor. If that is true, why would there be 12v at the blue/black connections that go to the switch? Bad gound at the wiper motor?

I'm sure this is an elementary question. As I've said elsewhere, electrical problems are not my strong suit. Any advice is appreciated.

the 12 volts is fed thru the motor windings from the input power on the yellow wire. The wiper switch grounds out the appropriate wire (blue or light blue I think) to complete the circuit and turn on the motor.

I just went through the same mess yesterday... I used a volt meter and touched the + side to a hot spot on the fuse panel and the - side to the metal stud coming out of the front of the switch that the button is on. If you get 12v you will know that your switch is grounded. Then do the same with the motor housing and the battery. That will tell you if the motor is grounded.
