Busted Knuckles Aug 6th, 07, 05:49 AM Have you tried a can of Marvel Mystery Oil yet? It's high detergent with additives, I've personally seen it clear up a couple of sticking lifters. 77wolf10.85 Aug 6th, 07, 05:52 AM an oil and filter change has also been known to quiet a lifter jet_car2000 Aug 6th, 07, 06:03 AM what weight oil are you using? might want to try 5w30 in it,, lots of the later model engines are recommend to use it because of the small orfices in the lifters, maro1980 Aug 6th, 07, 01:21 PM i'm going to pick up some marvels mystery oil and change the weight to 5-30 today should the filter be anything specific? zdld17 Aug 6th, 07, 01:35 PM Good name brand , AC, Fram, Wix. Napa. ace's68 Aug 6th, 07, 02:16 PM AC and Wix are a personal favorite around here. If your gonna use fram you may aswell use toilet paper for a filter. zdld17 Aug 6th, 07, 04:01 PM AC and Wix are a personal favorite around here. If your gonna use fram you may aswell use toilet paper for a filter. I would not knock toilet paper microns. As long as you can keep the roll from collasping , that is fine filtering. Looonnnngg time ago, in the 50's, this was an addon filter kit, before GM can filters on the block. Surely you remember them,, Tim? Fred? PDQ? Comeon I aint the only old fart here. 77wolf10.85 Aug 6th, 07, 05:18 PM Yeah I've seen them. They were sidestream and had a valve you opened until your oil pressure fell from 15 to 13 if I remember right. Our 50 has one but I didn't put the TP in it. Don, go to Fram.com or whatever Federal Mogul.com , whoever they are... and do a search for micron... it will return a pdf document you need to read. There is a new measurement system for oil filtration, called the Multi-pass. It uses an enumeration system they call Beta. It's what percentage of what micron is removed. Kinda complex until you read it 2-3-4 times. But the gist is after they all get thru spending a fortune for new testing equipment we are going to be telling people that a beta of 98 is not that much better than a 90 but that a beta of like 25 sucks. Problem with the micron system is that the paper is inconsistent, so a micron rating really isn't accurate. I probly did a p poor job of explaining this. zdld17 Aug 6th, 07, 06:30 PM I understand you better each day, even with less explaining. Seeing myself in mirror. Back to filters, What filter company is listing the B values on the box? Who is looking at them? Prolly guys like you, that have so many fails and you do some rfca to determine, who is to blame. 77wolf10.85 Aug 7th, 07, 05:42 AM I understand you better each day, even with less explaining. Seeing myself in mirror. Back to filters, What filter company is listing the B values on the box? Who is looking at them? Prolly guys like you, that have so many fails and you do some rfca to determine, who is to blame. On the box... our filters don't come in pretty boxes so I can't answer that. I have been trying to make myself watch car oil filters for about 5 years now to see if any started putting it but I have failed to pay attention lately. I have never seen it on boxes that I remembered to look at, I'll put it thataway.:D We have access to the Multi-Pass data for our critical stuff. Who is looking at the MP data? We make it available to all who even so much as see filters, and the training guys preach it. I was at the office about a year ago and they had a training session going on and I sat in and disrupted:D. I was absolutely delighted when the trainer started showing MP betas. As for who makes the decisions on MP criteria, that would be The Man, of course. As for FA and blame. I never look for blame because blame is an opinion, I determine why and make my reports adhere to facts. I do state my opinion if I am in a deal where it is necessary for it to be written. (It is my opinion that Y and Z caused X to break because...) I prefer such things as blame to be kept verbal and one to one. Severe consequences can result and that's just not my area. I make machines perform as advertized. Blame is often a byproduct of facts however and I'm glad there's men with better temperament than me at the helm. I'm quite content to let them keep things smooth. I have found blame and fault to be bad words, counterproductive from my perspective. |
