HI,
I just took off the front and back windows off my 69. The channel it self is in good condition. But it is heavily pitted in some areas. My question is should I bondo the pttied area smooth or just grind it and paint it and let the window sealer fill in the pitted area. The window dint leak before I removed it. It look like the guy who painted it last just grinded the channel down and put the window back on. But he was an idiot!!!Trust me. You guys know how it is, the guy who previously owned your car was probably a no patient bum with a mind of a 3 lbs. bird. Well at least mine was.

Thanks guys and thank you Team Camaro!!

Depends on how thin the sheetmetal is that's pitted. How big and deep are the pits? If someone already ground down that area(s), maybe you could cut out those spots and patch them. Try to get a look from the underside if you can. One of those telescoping mirrors and a flashlight will get you up under there.

HI,
Thanks for the info. Ya the pitts arent through the metal at all. The places where it was really thin I cut and patched. couple of dime size areas. I guess I'll check with the windshield guy see what he says. He just lives dow the street. I'll keep you guys posted.

If the metal is not too thin already (in that case patch) I'd get the rust out of the pits with a wire wheel or chemical etch, treat the bare metal with an etching primer plus a filler of some sort (not bondo- maybe a polyester resin or fiberglass) followed by a good coat of paint. That should seal up the pits really well so you don't have to worry about leaks or rust recurrence after the new glass is put in. If your glass guy uses a high grade urethane sealer the area should be doubly protected.
