Hi, I wanted to build a sandblasting cabinet out of wood, I was wondering if anyone may have the plans or designs to build one. I'm looking to build a cabinet, which i can use and later on throw-out. I was thinking of building one using a metal barrel.. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I just got a “Full Blast” cabinet (cabinet and dust collector) yesterday for FREE. The place I work for is being closed and I’m being laid-off soon. I bid a $175 for the unit and then they wouldn’t take the money. 7 years of hard work finely paid off. http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

Z28 Mark, what luck. That is so cool. I recently had such luck with my work place.
They were auctioning off a lathe and I was the only bidder so I got it for free! I believe it is worth over $3000! I love it.
The new house I just bought has an unused oil tank in the basement and my sister in law, of all people, suggested that I use it as a sandblast cabinet. BINGO! Way cool idea! It may even be big enough to blast a whole fender! (giggle giggle)

Team Canada,

Ever buy those plans? What did you think?

Ya, I got the plans, they are very detailed and great if you plan on building something which you will use often, But the problem of building a blaster out of wood is that as you sandblast your metal parts, you will also be indirectly sandblasting the cabinet, so the wood will eventually wear thin. You could line it with metal,....

So what I did was build something similar to this: www.barrelblaster.com (http://www.barrelblaster.com)

I got a barrel, and some angle iron, welded/screwed everthing together and build my very own half-a$$ blasting cabinet it cost me about $65. and its BIG, looks just like the one on the webpage, and I'm using a syphon feed blaster which I built from a pale, hoses and blasting gun..

It works, looks respectable, does the job.

That's a long way from the $299 price tag on the website!

So do you think the plans are worth buying? I was thinking of building something of that same design but in metal, not wood. Any chance you don't want yours?

Where did you end up getting your gun from? Did you install a light?

If you are planning to build something, out of wood, that is very well designed, then its worth it. If not, then dont buy it, I like the barrel blaster cause its big, metal, and cheap and easy to build. The compartment is already made, all you have to do is cut out holes for the gloves, and for the glass top, and the side for a door.

There's a tool outlet near my placee that sells sandblasting stuff, gloves, media, guns, the equipment is cheap, but like I said it does the job.

As for the light, I used an old outdoor light fixture http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

I can send you pics, if you want
