So I have my Demon carb "rebuilt" by a guy that was recommended to me. After 2 months of playing phone tag and listneing to excuses, I finally get the carb back. He charged me $100 and said "..... yep, its good to go". So I put it on, filled the front bowl with gas so we can fire the motor and it starts leaking all over the manifold from the front bowl gasket.

Sooooo, I give the guy a call and tell him that he needs to fix this thing and that I'm brining it back in. It was a Saturday afternoon and he said he was leaving for the day and that I could bring it back in on Monday.

Sooooo, while I have the fellas over to help, I impress them by pulling out another Demon carb that I had from a previous project. I put it on, pour some gas into the carb and the car fires up for only a few seconds -- after troubleshooting we find that the fuel pump has taken a dump.

Sooooo, I get another fuel pump and install it. In the meantime, I'm again doing the phone tag dance with this idiot trying to get my carb back. I finally get a hold of him and get the carb back (and no I didn't pay anything for him to fix it -- he gave me some BS about needle valves, pin hole in the float bowl, etc, etc, etc...)

Soooo, last night my buddy Mike and I put the carb on, cranked up the motor and it fired up. I ran it about two minutes and guess what I noticed -- the carb was leaking!!

Soooo, we had a beer :beers:, then we had another :beers: :beers:

Soooo, I'm going to try that other Demon carb I had and NO I'm NOT taking the leaky one back to that moron! Take this the right way --- money - I GOT, time and patience for incompetence - I DONT GOT

Hmmm, tonight I thnk I'll go out to the garage, open a bottle of Merlot and smoke one of my good cigars. I feel better already :D

If I lived as close to Custom Rebuilt Carbs as you do I would use them. They use a flow bench to check them out. They are quick also.

When you get lemons, I prefer Mikes Hard Lemonade

Buy yourself a set of gaskets and go through the carb yourself, it's not that hard. It's not like the guy was going to re-work the carb or do some trick stuff to it. Customer service really stinks these days (for the most part). You could have messed it up twice yourself and still been ahead of the game (money and time wise). Hang in there and don't settle for something you don't want.

Paul...
I agree...charge what you want but fix the darn thing! I have seen too many of these " can of carb cleaner " rebuilds. Heck...you could have done that and bought 3 bottles of Merlot and a nice cigar :)

I think that's the same guy that rebuilt my tranny. "I done 10,000 of these old Muncies and I aint never had one do that". Whatever. Good luck with the beer, the cigar and the carb. Mike. :beers::beers:

I have to agree with everyone here. people make carbs seem like alot of smoke and mirrors! I had a similar problem once and decided to take matters into my own hands (try to work on it myself) I found it was really simple!! And the best part is the feeling of accomplishment when it actually works right!! :D
You will also learn how things work so when it needs adjustment someday, you can understand what needs to be done to fix it.

Oh, make sure to thank your "friend" that reccomended this clown.

Thanks guys. I have done a couple of simple rebuilds on Holley carbs (power valve, jets, squirters), but never on a Demon. I did take it apart just to investigate it before I gave it to him. This guy was supposed to be some kind of carb "guru" who "knew what he was talking about".

In any event, if my other Demon doesn't work, I'll just go out and buy a new carb.

My son called me yesterday afternoon and said he was at On The Border for happy hour with a bunch of his hockey buddies and had a seat reserved for me at the bar. Sooooo, instead of a cigar and a Merlot, I had wings and beers :beers: :beers: with the boys.

Beer server still in the garage?

Unfortunately, not the one you are referring to :D

Got the motor running last night with that "other" Demon carb -- it runs a little rich so I'll have to adjust it. Still may buy a new carb but at least I can continue to move forward with re-assembly.
