Can you use a standard 12 volt coil for the HEI Distributor as supplied with a ZZ502 new crate engine for street work or is something special required :confused:

I've got a Dave's Small Body HEI setup and it uses an Accel Super Coil. So far it's worked like a champ. The HEI module controls the dwell and doesn't present a load to the coil with the ignition on and the engine off. So as far as I can tell, it'll work fine.

I also use an Accel Super Coil. It fits perfectly in front of the firewall, fires great, and is ultra-reliable. You can get one at most local part stores - at least in my local (DC) area.

if you had a reg points setup before. you need to take the resistor wire out or wire dizzy up to a 12 volts when key is on.

One more thing I might add about the Dave's Small Body setup and the Accell Super Coil. Dave explained to me that Accell has one of the few stock-type coils on the market that aren't made in mexico. In addition, they have better quality control and are properly filled with oil. I took Dave's word for it and can't say otherwise. Long story short, I'm not sure any and all stock-type coils will work equally well.

Peter.I am a little confused:confused:.Whats new eh.Anyhow..The zz502 crate I installed came with a plug and play dizzy with the coil integral to the cap.Not to say that this has not changed in the last 24 months
