Been in the process of hanging on to Camaros (not selling them) and searching for a new addition.

Recently located a 1967 RS Camaro as follows ...

SBC 327 #3892657 - Block Number V09I7YS
Heads # 3890462 - 64CC 302/327/350 "Camel Hump"
Turbo 400 Trans (bummer)
Rear PW0105 - 2.73 Gear

Build Date 01C - 3rd Week January
L462 - Internal Van Nuys Plant Code
ST 67-12637 Sport Coupe w/ Custom Interior
LOS - Van Nuys Plant
14286 - Fisher Body Unit Number
765 - Custom Black Bucket "Z" Seats
M- Body Color Royal Plum
Z- Black Top
EL - Tinted Windows / Fold Dowm Rear Seat Option
MG - Powerglide / Center Console

The car has been recently repainted "hugger orange" (another bummer) which is a great color but incorrect for this code - the more rare Royal Plum. Someone along the way also removed the powerglide and shoehorned a TH400 in place. The interior is in decent shape, seats can be recovered, new carpet, normal interior pieces for appearance, etc. Nothing too earth shattering so far. The center console is gutted and there is a Hurst Shifter planted in the middle of a somewhat carved out hole where the PG Gate should be.

The car is running and driving ... for now. Obviously not a numbers match example but still a pretty interesting '67.

Floor pans are solid all the way through. Trunk is in really good condition. Windows have been pulled, channels cleaned and resealed. Weather strip and some door felts all need to be replaced. Door hinges are solid (no sag, etc.). Rocker panels and other usual areas so no visible evidence of major repairs.

I will be digging into the car more over the next week to see how good / bad it really is ...

Alright - take your best shots here and let me know if you think it is worth a purchase. I know what the current owner wants - just curious as to the "value" today as it sits. It is always a labor of love - but you really don't want to get too deep ...

Thanks in advance for all of your help - Scott.

I can tell you this, most of the cars on auctions sites in relative condition to what you describe have a hard time getting to the "sellers" reserve price lately.
It sounds like a good find, I suggest buy it and add it to the collection if that is the type of answer you were looking for.

Thanks for your feedback ... I was contemplating putting the car back to a more original state with the powerglide, building the 327 with good parts to support about 375 HP, converter and gears appropriate, correcting the console and shifter, finishing the interior and ultimately back to Royal Plum.

In its current state - am guessing the car is probably worth $13K - $16K and with a few corrections maybe a bit more.

I am comfortable pouring $10K into the car (less paint for now) and have access to lots of parts across several project cars - so that helps keep the costs down.

Any other thoughts on value "as is" versus the potential changes suggested above?

My thoughts are, that list would put you well over the 10k, and I can't tell if you are looking to buy it to do the work and sell it, or finish it for yourself.
Buy it and do it for yourself.

Just noticed you mention that it's a rs but in your tag reading you did not mention the rs code 3 L. Is it a factory rs?

Good points and great information ... actually was looking to purchase from a new owner before he decides to have the work done. I can keep the costs down due to parts on hand, working at our shop and doing all the work myself.

Note on the trim tag though indicates as follows:

EL 2MG 3SL
5Y

I thought the 3SL indicates "S" for RPO Z23 Interior Decor and "L" for RPO Z22 Rally Sport Trim. The fourth position is not stamped and is blank on the trim tag.

Hopefully that clarifies and the "gurus" can tell me it is indeed a real RS option Camaro.

Thanks again - Scott.

The "L" is the RS, correct.
If it's the correct tag, then it is what it is.

Are you going to do this car for yourself?
