I have a Vintage Air setup in my 69 that uses the Vintage Air Controls. Quite honestly, they stick out like a sore thumb...:angry:

Anyway, I want to put in an original AC/Heater control panel. Has anyone converted a Vintage Air system to use the factory controls? I was wondering what components I would need to make it work outside of the factory contorls and the existing Vintage Air kit.

Any help would be really appreciated.

I would contact them directly and see what is needed. I think you will need the cables they supply and the stock controls. Looka the web site or call them. I think calling will get you the right answer.

Now if yours are controling it via dash pot or electronic that might be another issue. They have started selling the Gen IV set ups but I don't know if they have it for a 69 right now?

They do have a Gen IV for the 69, along with the 67 and 68s. We have been selling them for a few months.

Joe, What system do you have? A Sure fit? Gen 2?

Classic Auto Air uses the stock heater control to operate the AC.
I just bought one, so I will let you know how it works.

Tell you the truth, I don't know as it was in the car when I got it. How can I tell what type it is?

Okay, in looking at the systems on their website further, it appears that the Gen 2 is a universal type system and the sure fit is more specific to your car. In that, I would say that I have the sure fit. Whether that is the new Gen IV or not, I still don't know...

I have a Vinage air made for 69 and it used the stock controls to operate all of it. Call vinage air they can set you up.

Sorry, i miised you response. Well, I doubt it is a Gen IV, they have only been out for a few months. Unless it is a Gen IV Magnum Universal. Is it a 3 knob controler? Levers? Can you show a pic of the controls? If it is a Sure Fit, it would have to work through your original controls.

It uses levers. The car is not an original A/C car. I want to purchase the original controller. I wasn't sure if I needed an additional wiring harness piece and/or an wiring adapter for the Vintage Air system.

That is a Gen 2. It is electronic and there is no Vintage Air designed system of converting it to use your original controls. You may be able to wipe something up if your a electronic genius, but nothing ready made I am sorry. Hide them in your glove box.

BTW, there is a different bezel for that in Billet that makes it pretty anyway.

This is my first post so I may screw it up, but I purchased a 68 SS with a Vintage Air setup (aprox. 1 year old) utilizing the factory controls. Everything seems to work OK but the air doesn't get too cold. I am hoping it is just low on freon but I don't want just anyone to add some, so I called Vintage Air to locate an approved service location in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I talked to a couple of the places and there is a long wait. So I was hoping someone would know of a good place to take it in the DFW area that can be trusted with a restored classic that I won't need a co-signer for. I don't have the equipment to do it properly myself. TIA

I guess I'll focus my attention elsewhere until it becomes unbearable...:-)
