Wanted to see if anyone elsle has my same problem. Installed the tremec 600 conversion in my car recently. It has the dual friction kevlar clutch. The clutch engagement is harsh! You have to slip the clutch to get a smooth release. I called mcleod and talked to the engineer and he told me that this clutch is a for road race or race applications and it's gonna be harsh. That sucks! On a brighter side he told me he would reline the disc for free and thats a great thing to here from a manufactuer today! I asked the tech at the place where i bought the kit before i purchased the kit if he thought it would be a good street clutch. He said yes. I had my doubts but i trusted the suplier. Sorry for ranting. If anyone has this same problem or the same setup with no problems i would appreiate the input. Thanks again.

67 rs/ss,

I believe I have the same set up in my 67 touring ride with the TKO-600, the PP is the 360820 and the disk is the 260873. Kevlar/organic frictions, It was funny to read your post since Im always mentioning to my 16 year old son sitting in the passenger seat how this clutch is very agressive at times. If your a little lite on the gas when you start releasing it you will find engagement to come on quick almost like it bucks you. There is a sweet spot with a bit more fuel and the right release of the pedal. I dont think its that bad, I only have 200 miles on mine. One way to look at it is you certainly dont have any doubt the clutch is fully engaged, it hooks! Really not that bad you will get use to it. Im running very close to 500ftlbs at the rear wheels and had pretty low drivetrain loss through the clutch and trans when we chassis dynoed it. I let the wife drive it and she thought the clutch was great, now she is a little heavier on the gas and slips it just a tad more than I.
Overall Red makes an awesome clutch! - Rich

Pull it out, Go to the CF II single disc, unless you have too much hp. You cant go wrong here.

Don, do you have a complete part number or is that the whole number? Is that a mcelod disc? The guy i talked to at mcleod offered to put the single stage material on mine but that would take a long time. I want one ready so i can get this done in a day. so you do think the problem i am having is do to the aggressive disc? Thanks to all for the help!

For some time now , I have been using the CFT 361675 plate with 384161 disc and the short BCA 1705 t/0 bearing. I have the fine spline disc due to TKO. All of this with a billet flywheel and Lakewood two piece housing.
I dont know what treatment your clutch gets but if its for racing and hi hp motors, guess its the one to use, but for limited strip and street, this is what I use. And you dont have to worry about plate going over center and pedal sticking to floor, when you shift at 7800. I dont do this anymore but memories are there.

My friend has one of the McLeod kevlar setups. It had similar characteristics when new like 67ragtp, but got progressively more difficult to deal with. After 3000 miles it won't go into gear from a neutral-idle. We have done several clutch adjustments to no affect.

He is going to have them relined with an organic compound. We have driven each others cars, and there is a world of difference in actuation, mine being a Centerforce DF. His grabbed late and hard, mine starts earlier, is more subtle, and not as hard hitting.

If McLeod is offering to reline it for free I'd take them up on it.
