What would a 84' z/28 305 700R4 or other year car with same motor and transmission shift at under WOT? My friend did a WOT and it shifted at 6,400 rpm which is suprising because the 305 isn't an rpm motor. at all. is this normal?

pretty sure that trans stock and adjusted to factory spec will shaif at 5000...maybe even 4800...definately shouldnt go 6400...neither should the motor...lmao...

maybe there's a shift kit in the tranny?

it's all in the way the tv cable is adjusted. to return it to near stock, depress the "D" shaped plate with a pin hole in it that sits in the phenolic cable end that mounts just behind the carb. after that, just cycle the throttle arm of the carb to wide open once (engine NOT running!). shift points can be changed a bit by moving the toothed pin that holds the cable in or out a few clicks. you are not doing your tranny or engine any favors where it is set now!

my 83 Z had a 5 speed...the limiter was my foot!.....and I definately pushed that 305 to the limit! I gotta say for an 80,000mile motor that thing took a beatin.
Also had a 85 4 banger ....what a POS!
