Hey guys, I'm not all that familiar with what kinds of rear ends are interchangeable with other makes and models of vehicles. Theres a guy who has a 4.56 for sale near me that hasn't been used in many years. I think its from a vette. Numbers are: ifc 12-6-68 w, and the # on the snout 3898143. I'm putting together a 68 - I have a 427 BB and 4 speed from a 68 vette and this rear might round out this combo nicely.

Thoughts/comments?

Thanks.

I am not sure about interchangeability but I do know from experience that the 4.56 gear isn't very good for street driving. You probably will quickly get tired of your big block turning 3,300 RPM at 55 MPH.
Your big block probably has some nice low end torque which would drive a 3.42 or 3.08 really well allowing you some highway speeds.

A Vette rear won't fit iin your Camaro without major modifications to the frame and suspension. You need a '67 to '69 Camaro 0r '68 to '75 Nova rear end.

Ring and pinion from out of a Corvette rear end will not bolt into any differential used by the Camaro. If you have the entire independent rear suspension save it for a future project because as stated it will not be easy to adapt to a Camaro rear frame and is weaker than a 12 bolt.

As to the lack of suitability of a 4.56 I happen to love it and have one in my rear end though in terms of full disclosure I must admit that I also have a 4L80e behind my BBC that tames the 4.56 by knocking it down to a 3.19 final drive. My 582 turns 2,800 RPM at 70 mph on the interstate. Traction is however a major problem with street tires, but I am the burn out king so long as I have fresh rubber under the car.
