My trans tunnel was cut up by some butcher and now it needs to be replaced. The patch work was hidden by the original trans and the new interior that came in the car.
They cut the tunnel using tin snips, you can tell by the way the metal is torn VS cut. They took some 28 ga sheet metal ( 28ga sheet metal ) and pop riveted to the side and top. I drilled out the rivets and removed the patch last night. The patch is roughly 11" x 10"
The cut starts midway through the original shifter hole and proceeds downward towards the driver pan. (It's almost to the flat portion of the pan.) The original shifter hole has a bent plate underneath for added strength. Ricks sells a partial tunnel for this type of repair. My question is, should I fabricate a new piece of bracing for the new shifter location?
I'm installing a T56 and the shifter location needed to be moved anyway.
Thanks for the advice,
Rich
