Do all SS camaro's from '96 to '02 have functioning ram air hoods? I am looking to buy one and and wanted to know. Thanks for any help.

"Functional" is a relative term. The hood doesn't make a positive seal to the air box, so it really has no function other than bringing in cold air from outside the hood. If it's an LT1 4th gen you should find it to have a wrap around elbow and air cleaner on top of the intake, rather than the front mounted air cleaner that a Z/28 will have. '98+ SS's will have the same airbox a Z/28 has.

I'd also take the time to insure it's a true SS, and not a clone. There are a lot of good looking clones lately. A true SS will have option code WU8 on the drivers side door option sticker. If it doesn't have the code, it's not a true SS, no matter what they try to tell you.

I have a '97 SS and a '01 SS. Although they may look the same from the outside, the air delivery is different. This will be very noticeable when you open the hood. Regardless, both systems are a joke.

I believe the WS6 Trans Am hoods are true ram air hoods and may actually generate additional hp. Our SS hoods are there more for style than functionality.

I have a 96 SS Love the looks of the Hood but being functional is not that great. I have seen the aftermarket Cold Air Kits tested out for More Horsepower and Torque. I am keeping mine a 100% original so I won't mess with the Hood or Air intake. Car is fast enough for Me! I am looking for an LS1 2000 and up
