Hi Guys, I have a favor to ask of some of you experienced bodymen aka:black magic practitioners as far as I am concerned.

This Saturday, I drove up to Year One in Braselton for their car show. I met some very nice guys who had an exhibit for Rustbusters of Atlanta. I liked everything I saw and it appears they are a good choice for my media blasting, floor pan replacement, etc. They also have the rustbuster spray welding franchise for ATL. They showed me two cars that were on the Year One showroom floor that were absolutely awsome that they said they did the media blasting for. OK, that is the setup, now for the question.

Judging by the pics on their website http://rustbustersofatlanta.com/custcars.htm
the fact that they were displaying at Year One and that the owner used to work at Year One, Do you guys see anything about this company that would make you say "Yep, you need to use them for your project" or "beware." My gut is telling me to go for it but I have this problem where I have to investigate the hell out of everything until I can make a expert decision. Yes, it drives my wife insane! At the moment, I could not tell you what a picture of a good floor replacement versus a bad one so I am counting on you guys for opinions.

Thanks in advance.

It depends on how bad your floor is, there is a guy in NE. that is part of the franchise and from what I can tell is if you can buy the panel it might be cheaper. It's just like any thing that gets media blasted , you don,t know how bad it is until it's blasted. If its a small hole then that would be the way to go. but if it looks like a strainer then a complete floor would be the way to go. It is a good fix I've seen alot of work with this process, But every panel is different. With all of that I probably didn't help you a bit.

If you are in the Atlanta area I would recommend Blast Technology in Pendergrass, GA. Jim Davis is the owner and does exceptional work. He blasted my 69 RS and replaced the floor pans and the toe board on the firewall. He does work for the Atlanta Corvette Club and the Atlanta T-Bird Club. He did the blasting on the exploding Camaro display that Rick's is restoring. He has also done several cars for YearOne. Give him a call before you make up your mind. It will be worth your call. Tell him I sent you.

I spoke with the RB guy in NC for a long time about the deal. He said the following:

- Great for pinholes, up to a quarter size.
- Not to be used as structural repair.
- He can RB a quarter with pineholed wheel well in around 4-6hours depending on the amount/size of holes and charge around 500 for the work -vs- replace/patch the panel old school way and cost double if not triple the RB.
- Not many people know of it, so he does not use it as much on auto's as he does farm equip.

The videos they show are only showing you certian steps. Think about it, you spray anything over and over on one spot and your goingto have build up. Which is the theory around this spray welding. Wellthis means you will have build up around the repair area on good metal that will have to be ground down/feathered in etc.... So you will ned a good body man or it was all for not.

Now as for replacing a floor pan..... buy the pan and do it yourself. You will be just as good off as if you paid 1500 for ashop to do it. If you dont have a welder and dunno how to weld... well this is the perfect area to learn on, and everyone needs a welder. So instead of spending 1500 at a body shop you can buy a welder, floor pan, and do it yourself and still take the wife to Denny's! :)
