would there be a problem using single stage paint for my jams, and base coat clear coat for the outside, I am going to prime and edge the car and i'm going to hire out for the actual paint job? It would be easier and cheaper for me to do it that way, just wanted to know if it would be a problem or not?

no there wouldn't be a problem as long as you can get same color in base /clear, also why use single stage and have the jambs dull out in 4 or 5 years and have your nice paint job still looking brand new!!! do it once, do it all in base i clear, i can understand not wanting to buy 1 gallon of clear, and so on, maybe your paint guy will sell you just the quantity's you need to do the jambs, like 1 pint of base, 1 pint of base reducer, 1 quart clear, and catalyst for clear, that why everything is the same and i think it would make you happier down the road!!

I agree. Yep...it will cost a little more but worries of color match and life won't be there.
